How do you remove single wall cage nuts?

My parts 1972 Blazer has single wall cage nuts, and I want to install them on my 1971 Blazer. How do I remove the cage nuts from the 1972? Do I need a spot weld cutting drill bit? Can I use a 1/8" bit to drill a pilot hole and then just use a regular drill bit to cut the spot weld out?
It's a fair amount of drilling, and probably not the most comfortable position, so I don't want to make it too hard. If that means I need a spot weld cutter, so be it.

Re: How do you remove single wall cage nuts?

If it's a spot weld the cutter is fairly cheap and works good to not damage the panel. I used one to replace the kick Panels on a 71 I had. A regular drill bit might go through the top of the bed. The spot weld bit is flat and made to just drill out the spot weld. Im not sure if they are spot welded though. I've seen them for sale and the didn't look like anyone used that bit to remove them. If I have time tomorrow I'll look at mine and see if they are just tacked on.

They are spot welded in, if I remember correctly 2 on each end.
