Cool Differential question

I have a 70 c10 short bed. It has a leaf spring rear end right now but I want to change it to coil spring rear end. I can't find any coil speing rear ends for my year. Can I use a rear end from a newer truck like 73 or newer?
Thanks guys

Currie sells the trailing arm pads and shock mount brackets to convert your axle from leaf to coil. Use those and you know you have a good diff or, buy a used diff which is always a crapshoot. Your choice.

Re: Differential question

I would post in the fore sale section you need a rear end. There are lots of them out there and the guys here can help you find one. 70 still used the narrower of the 12 bolts and in 71 when they went to 5 lug it got an 1 12" wider so keep that in mind. You can get the mounts from vendors right here on the board if you go that way. But finding a donor frame or truck to get all the parts off of may also be a good route to persue.

Re: Differential question

I suppose you could, but be advised that '73 and up were always leaf (never coil), so I'm not sure what you would gain.

Re: Differential question

ClassicGuy,

Your original post asked if you could use a 73 rear end and the answer as previously stated is yes they are the same width as some late 70 rear ends, all 71-72 and 73 and later square body trucks. With weld on axle saddles form ECE and a little research here on where to mount those saddles on the axle you will be just fine. For some reference on how I converted my 69 to trailing arms take a look at my build thread and dont be shy about asking questions.
