Oil pan gasket change help?

Looks like I may have some time today to change the oil pan gasket on my 67 250 6 cyl. I was looking last night at where to put the floor jack on it to make it clear the crossmember, getting it off. Could you jack it at the transmission or Bell housing? Anyone done it lately????

Thanks, Dave

I think I would try a cherry picker if you have on or I use the harmonic balancer. May not be the best place but it work's..

I second the cherry picker idea (if it's possible). Another recommendation would be to use a felpro 1 piece pan gasket, if they're available for an I6.

I got it changed but what a project it was!!!!!

I had Saturday to change it so I went to the parts store and ended up buying the Felpro 4 piece and let me tell you, I'll never do it again without the right equipment. Anyone who had the 67 250, use an engine lift and get the one piece gasket! I did jack it by the pulley (balancer) and had to jack and block and jack again to almost 5 inches to clear the cross member . Actually it was only about an inch for the x member but the oil pump was front and the rest of the distance was to clear that! To make it worse, The gasket front didn't have the front bolt holes in it because GM made that pattern obsolite. Instructions said to just not put in the 4 bolts under the pully. Guess where it is leaking now! I guess I will have to go out tomarrow and drill through the gasket and put those 4 small bolts back in. All in all, it only took me about 8 hours, a gasket and a tube of rtv heat silicone. Could be worse huh? It looks great though my back is killing me!!!

This is the 1piece people were talking about for the V8. The part number for this one is FEL-OS34510T. You need the one for the I6. Check out Felpro's site, or another supplier for it:
