transmission transfer case ??,s

my th350 is dead and the 203 isnt to far behind. i want to put in a 205 transfer case and either rebuild the th350 or go with a 400. i can get a th 400 2wd for free is there a way to change it over to 4wd? and if so would the length with a th400 and a 205 be the same as a th350 and 203 case? so i wouldnt have to buy driveshafts. and who sells the best cheap rebuild kit for the th 350? would i need a shift kit? and any other parts that i may have to buy that i dont know about yet would be helpful.

i dont want to get half way in and have to spend alot of extra money i wasnt planning on

thanks
stan

your answers

i do not have exact sizes but the th350/203 combo is longer than the th350/205 combo so shafts are going to be modifed. the th400 to 205 combo is shorter than the 350/203 combo but longer than the 350/205 combo so to answer your question the cheepest way to fix this is a direct replacement 350 203 my perferance ids the 350/205 combo it takes 21 hp to turn a th350 transmission it takes 47 hp to turn a th400 transmission and a th350 is pleanty strong for almost anything as long as you keep it cool ive run 350s for years and have rarely had any problems

i hope ive helped

Keep both the 350 and 203 and buy a part-time kit for your 203.

im not sure if im going to go with the stick or auto. itll be about a month or 2 before i get enough money to make the decision..is that a complete 350 and 205 with adapter, sleeve and everything..ready to bolt in. let me know what all i will need to make it work i would like to keep it an auto so my wife can drive it but if i go with a sm465 i wont ever have to fix it again .your only a little more than 100 miles away from here

It would be the 350 turbo with adapter and 205 tcase still bolted together. No shifter. All worked when pulled about 10 years ago. If I was going to use it, I would rebuild it first. If you plan on putting it in '79, you would need to change the front yolk to the flat mount type or get an old style shaft. I imagine both shafts would have to be altered.

turbo 350

i agree on the turbo 350 it will hold up to most anything you throw at it but it and any other trans will fail if they get too hot
