87 3/4 10 bolt ball joint nut size

what size are the nuts that hold the ball joint to the axil. need to go get a socket from sears and cant tell what size i need. These are for a 87 3/4 ton 8 lug 10 bolt. Also what is the best way to get a broken steering arm stud out that sheared off in the knuckle

the size will vary depending on if it is OEM or aftermarket. Take a caliper & measure it. As for the broken stud, weld a washer to it, then weld a nut to the washer. Let it cool & screw it out.

The top one is 1-5/16 and the lower one is 1-1/8. then you will need a special castle type socket needed for the removal of the top inner nut/taper.

thanx. that taper nut uses a "spanner wrench" wonder if dipwhit @ auto groan can figure out what it is. The stud that broke off in the knuckle is flush with the flat so welding a nut to it propably wont work. Guess im going to drill it out. what fun. I dont know how you salt/rust belt guys do it. This truck had minor rust for a northern truck and I still break one out of every 4 bolts. Between th BFH and pb blaster my hand and forearm are literally beat to death..

Yep, rust SUCKS!!! I personally wish they didn't use road salt, it seems they never have it applied where it needs to be anyway ie: intersections at hills, curves, etc. In the rare event I get away from the shop long enough to travel out of the "rust belt", I am in awe at the old vehichles WITHOUT rust! Am I jealous, hell yeah!

Broken bolts that are snapped off flush or even slightly down the hole usually are not a problem- that is what the washer is for. Your weld gets good penatration that way.
