Certainly looks "gold"-ish there.

I sure don't remember ever seeing anything like that.

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

Is this the color you are referring to?

Any ideas on where to look for a matching dash trim piece?

It looks like the same color as mine. No idea where to find the right side trim this color though

I have seen horn buttons in this color though so obviously they made them. I'm supposed to be getting 2 NOS right side trim pieces so I will let you know what color they are.

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

Bit of a question bordering on minutiae-

What is the size of the screws used to attach the bezel to dash? Thank you

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

I am not sure of the screw type or size, but they are not your typical trim screws. The shape of the head is countersunk but not like other trim screws I have seen on my squares. Also, they are relatively long - I think to help align the screws into the nut plates which tend to move around some. All of my squares have had black steel (or oxide) screw heads - even the brushed aluminum bezels.

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

I checked the parts book and, while it shows the screws in the picture, it does not show a size. They are not a machine thread (more like a wood screw), with a countersink and integrated countersunk washer.

I recall there were a couple different lengths used, depending on the location on the trim plate (long, and really long).

This is correct.

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

I have never seen a “gold” tint passenger dash trim offered. I’ve had many NOS AC and non AC pieces and none are the gold tint. Of the few NOS gauge cluster bezel surrounds, they were both the “gold” tint variety and they were all purchased from a local Chevrolet dealer in about 1988/89 iirc. The dealership was clearing out all their squarebody part numbers to make room for the new body style pickups. Parts were all bought cheap-like 5% over dealer cost at the time.

I have had the horn buttons in this color of goldish tint as well. I currently have NOS in both colors

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

I have worked on these square bodies since the first 1973 came out new and never remember seeing production trucks through 1987 at least with the gold color. So when I ordered a new GM cluster applique from the local GM dealer around 2001, I and the dealer parts manager were thinking there must have been a change of these replacement parts. We tried ordering from GM parts depot 5 or 6 more and each one all came that way from GM. We then went and dealer located an older stocked part number( had their GM parts guy verify color) and it was the correct silver. After doing some in depth research with GM through my parts manager at the local dealer, they found GM had changed their specs and another vendor was now making them with the same GM part number. So all the gold ones were never in production for the assembly line only parts depot orders. Another interesting find was GM was licensing reproducers to make non serviced parts and then would also put them back into GM inventory in one location on limited supplies. I went back about 5 years ago and asked if my local dealer had any of those gold ones we had ordered in and he had 2 left at that point as they went out quick when the part became obsolete.

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

I am not sure who makes the decals now, but this was the original supplier:

http://www.norcorp.com/resources-nam...utomotive-trim

The plastic bezels were originally made in house, but obviously now made elsewhere.

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

All really great info! I assume this was also the case with the horn buttons Hotfun as I have seen them in the more goldish tint.

Re: Question for Keith Seymour on NOS dash bezel

The goldish colored horn pads I have routinely found in 1988 CCs, K5s and Burbs prior to GM going with the injected foam wheel.
