72 blazer build in Minnesota
I'm new to the world of blazers but not chevy trucks and this body style. I recently picked up a 72 k5 in the black hills. After the guy had told me it was a great body and ran like a top I was pretty disappointed when I saw it in person but I was able to make a deal with him and drag it home, during sturgis week, that was a fun haul down I-90. Anyway, my plan is to do either a 2 or 4 inch all spring lift with 33's, fix the body and paint it atomic orange, drop my 454 in with an o/d trans and 205 t-case, vintage air, classic instruments and various other things that are going to drive my wife up the wall as I empty the checking account. It has 33's with no lift and it looks ok but would like to see some pics of 2" lifts if anyone has gone that route. Really looking forward to this build even with all the rust issues to address. I've always wanted a blazer but just seemed to keep ending up with c-10's. any experiences and suggestions are welcome please follow the build, it will be a long process but worth it in the end.

This is my current work in progess that should help you out. I did a 2" lift in the rear and put 1" OffRoad Designs zero rates up front. 33" ATs.

I found a sweet drawing of a k5 with a full roll cage and third row seats. Not so keen on the third seat but the custom cage with a vinyl top fitted to it would be awesome. Took some measurements last night and I know where I can get tubes mandrel bent around here.

Started the tear down. Front clip and interior are completely out. After getting the doors off I found that the rust isn't as bad as first thought. I need to buy something besides a die grinder to cut panels out. Was looking at a pneumatic recip saw but don't know what would work best. Any thoughts?

Working on a full cage for mine right now. Plans are for an (easilly) removable Bikini style top to fit it when I'm done with the cage. Will send some picks when complete. Might be a while, traveling for work every other week so not much project time at the moment.
Another crazy idea I want to try while I'm on this project is to put a Lund visor on without the top. Had one on my '69 truck and like the look. The plan is to make a bracket that uses the top mounting holes and incorporate the Bikini top into that bracket so I won't have to drill holes in the windshield frame. Going to have to play with it to see if I can make it look decent and still support it at highway speeds. |

I've been doing a lot of reading on lift kits. My plan was to go with a tuff country 2" all spring. I called around and did a bunch of google searches and found that for a bbc I need heavy duty front springs. The only problem with that is the 2" system with hd fronts is 400 bucks more than the 4" system with hd springs. So I'm leaning back toward the 4" but don't know if it will look stupid with 33's. any thoughts?

4" and 33 will look fine. Then later if you want 35s you can still fit them. All spring lift is much nicer than blocks as well. My rear axle spit out one of the blocks and I luckily caught it b4 I lost the axle.
