Rough Country

How good are they, and what about ride? Yesterday I was driving my truck around and spotted a white 80's Blazer and stoped and talked to him. Turns out to be a real nice dude. He said the lift on his truck was Rough Country 4" and said it was the cheapest he found and got it from JC Whitney. Said he was satisfied with it. I looked it up and its 294$ with ever thing needed including pitman arm and shocks. Was hopeing someone had used there products, and could tell me how they like it also.

I have their 4" springs on my Chevy, and they lack much to be desired. They are stiff and have a high spring rate, the tuff country HD springs on my GMC ride much better.

I've got a 4 in Rough country softride lift on my 72 and it's VERY true to it's name...the rough part anyway.
By looking at the dust on the shock shafts it never gives more than about an inch and a half. And that's over the worst bumps!

I have this lift also, it rides awful and the front sits about 2" lower than the rear.

Might add I just bought 6" springs from a board member and plan on removing the rough country springs.

Dont get the rough country, its stiff as hell. I had thier 6" on a K5 and it was stiff and rode like crap...you will be dissapointed.
I switched to skyjacker softrides and the difference was night and day.

Well I want a kit with everything needed like shocks and brake line brakets, with rear blocks and all hardware. This kit includes all that for 300$, so is there another kit from Superlift or who ever for around that price? The most I could do is 400$ and that would be hurting me. This will only see light offroad duty. I might still have to settle for the rough country because of the good price. If the rough ride is the only complant I think I can deal with that, I drove a 76 Chevy with two extra leafs in front and three extra in the rear for 4 years. And that was a hard ride.
Your input is helping alot

I've got their 4" on my K20 and it rides like a hay wagon and the front does sit lower than the rear (and this is with a 350 I can't imagine how much they'd sag with a bb over them)

The whole kit for the price I think it is a decent deal and it's ok for my occasional use. For a DD no way and someday I will install another lift as the rake is not exactly the look I wanted.

That's strange. I think there was a couple other replies above that said theirs sits lower in the front with the Rough Country. Mine was actually higher in the front and looked like $hit! I flipped the rear shackles to bring the rear up to match the front.
My lift was what they called softride or easyride or somthing like that..BAHAHAHAHAHA! Yea, right! Their HD version must be just solid steel bars to replace the springs with!

Another point, the 4 in angled blocks that came with my kit were just barely taller than the 3in blocks I took out.

BTW, my truck is big block powered now but had a small block in it at the time I lifted it. I don't think it made any difference at all in height or ride!

If I had the time and $ I'd take my lift out and sell it to ya so I could get something else. But as usual, I have neither!

I have a 6" Rough Country kit on my K20.

Problems - rides rough, the teflon spring spacers fell out, the paint is half missing off the shocks, the shock shafts are rusting, the steering arm would not fit the knuckle (I had a spare that fit fine).

You get what you pay for. I would not buy another Rough Country kit. It will work for you for now, but later you will wish that you saved up some more $$$ and bought a different brand.

I had a Rough Country 4" on my truck and it rode like a log wagon, just switched to a 4" skyjacker softride on all 4 corners and the ride is so much nicer now no comparison. Like 1972 said it will work for you now but you will prolly wish that you spent a little more and went with something better. Actually the Rough Country cost me $250.00 for the front springs and rear blocks that is why I bought it at first, the Skyjacker Softride only cost me 300 for the rear springs and 345 for the front springs so the cost isn't that much more if you compare the quility and ride difference

Yeah, I would strongly advise saving some more money $$ up and getting a better quality lift. You will hate how crappy the ride is IMO.

Yea i have them on my 84'. Very rough riding, and i have often thought i may need to pad the roof inside the truck. Some of the smallest dips will launch you into next week. Im restoring a 70' 3/4 ton and i will not be using rough country. Havent had any problems with it, its just too rough of a ride.

I decided on the 4" Pro Comp Lift, it was a reasonable price. I was told by the guy at 4 Wheel Parts that the springs were of better quality than the Skyjackers I was looking at. And they were 80$ cheaper so I got those. I will let you know how they work out for me.

I dont think he wanted me to buy it because they own the company, if he was trying to me. He would of suggested the most expencive brand. Skyjacker front spring were 150$ apeice and Pro Comp was 108$. Money is tight so I went with Pro Comp. Im only going to use the truck for daily driver, and ocasoinal trail driving on my grandmas land.

Doesnt matter which was more expensive, they make more of a profit off the house brand.
