Flywheels
I pulled a 350 V8 out of a 4-speed standard 1-ton and want to put it in my Longhorn. The flywheel is waaay thicker than the one that was on the original block from the Longhorn. Both are 350s, but the Longhorn has an automatic. Will the torque converter bolt up to the thicker flywheel? Will the bell housing still mate with the block? If everything fits, which flywheel would you go with? Both are in good shape.

No. One is a flywheel/clutch and the other is a flex plate/ auto trans. You have to use the one with the auto trans.

Use the flywheel from the auto Longhorn... called a flex-plate for an auto. Make sure the gear ring is in good shape and it's the same diameter and #of teeth.

Cool, thanks. The flex plate looks to be in good shape and the teeth and diameter match up to the clutch flywheel. I should be able to use either starter, right? They look the same.

Just a heads-up: If the torque convertor slips out of the bellhousing at all, be very careful putting it back in. There are two tabs on the transmission pump that line up with the two slots in the torque convertor. If you don't get those lined up and you forcefully mate the transmission to the block, you're going to be tearing apart a transmission.
If you need to line up the torque convertor, push it in with hand pressure and turn it until it seats.
