Vortec Marine vs. Vortec

So have a question surrounding these new aftermarket products. An Ebay seller lists the Marine variety as being a thicker casting.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any other differences that would make this a better or worse choice for a build?

Re: Vortec Marine vs. Vortec

I have aftermarket Vortec heads. The original castings were cracked, so my machine shop guy (someone I really trust) recommended some castings he ordered from his catalog. I don't know the name, but they're identical to factory Vortecs except for being thicker in critical areas.

Re: Vortec Marine vs. Vortec

Good info there guys! Thanks for the responses. I guess I should have been more specific. I cannot find it on GMPP website so here I go with something someone got me thinking about.

Some other website one had commented about GM's products actually makes a Marine Vortec Head that was supposed to be the thicker castings. I guess I will be looking at other manufactures as well.

Re: Vortec Marine vs. Vortec

GM does make 2 variations of the Vortec head known as the Bowtie Vortec heads that are a thicker casting. Then of course there is the fastburn heads as well.

Re: Vortec Marine vs. Vortec

Good to know Captain! I was thinking about those a month or so ago, budgets prevailed in the build plan. Still undecided.

Vortec is trademark product. Sure, there are aftermarket versions of it, but they aren't really vortecs as only the originals can be. Besides the ones you posted flow 7cfm less intake, have 3cc bigger combustion chambers, and use screw in studs. Try again.

Re: Vortec Marine vs. Vortec

I don't know about aftermarket, but factory marine vortec heads had stronger valve springs to prevent valve floating at high rpm. This was done in case some one engaged the throttle without putting the outdrive down into the water.
