Bed angle repair

The bed angles on the bed side panels have rusted off about 2' back from the front. I know I can get new angles, but was wondering if I should
1) cut off the rusted end and patch in a new one since it is already rusted off the bed side, or
2) take off the entire angle and replace it.

I'm leaning toward 2, but don't know what the best way is to remove the entire angle piece from the bed side. The bed sides are in good shape and I don't want to do more damage removing the old angles.
