Re: Intended purpose of our trucks

I know lots of guys with show or really nice stuff and it almost never gets driven. And most definitely never left unattended in a parking lot etc. This type of vehicle just doesn’t appeal to me,it’s like buying a very nice bottle of rye to look good on a shelf. I can appreciate a very nice restored vehicle but I have no interest in owning one even if money was no object. A vehicle is still a tool be it a cruiser, racer or work or play. If it’s a show piece all it’s really awesome for is show. The rest is too restricted and a headache.

Some die a slow death

This old boy has had 2 or 3 heart transplants
Several limb replacements
I don’t know how many surgeries on his joints

But he refuses to croak?
Or, get parted
(So far)

Re: Intended purpose of our trucks

The intended purpose of these trucks was to be garage kept, maintained, and only driven a few thousand miles only on nice days to preserve them for all of us. But very few listened......... Bummer

Re: Intended purpose of our trucks

Who knows what use my truck has seen. This summer I drove it to the central coast to help our daughter move. We hauled all her indoor and outdoor plants without worrying about scratches. Usually I just drive it to my games that I referee/umpire. Last Friday as I was getting dressed in the parking lot a guy in a 1970 bronco parked next to me. We had a good talk about old vehicles, not everyone gets to experience that.

Re: Intended purpose of our trucks

I can't fathom all the loads my trucks have carried. The races won\lost, the people carried to their destinations, the work done. I just know now the truck's main function is chick magnet Not my truck or pic

Re: Intended purpose of our trucks

The original owner of the SWB I'm restoring, figured his truck was for boat launching, towing, fifth wheel & camper. His truck sported camper mirrors, saddle tanks and CB to boot. I'd have recommended a C-20, but I'm sure he had his reasons.

Re: Intended purpose of our trucks

My Burban currently is intended to haul me, back and forth to work and play, every day. Plus it needs haul sheet goods in the rain without getting wet. It wasn't intended to end up being pretty. It seems that my plan to seal it up so the interior stayed dry got out of hand.

Re: Intended purpose of our trucks

I'm pretty sure the intended purpose of my trucks are to make sure my wallet never gets too fat.

Every time I hear someone say "cool truck" I know it's functioning properly.

Re: Intended purpose of our trucks

Mine is asummer driver but will use it to haul something or when I get the hidden hitch installed pull something if needed. My truck was bought to use as truck but wasn't worked to hard and was maintained and garaged until 2011 by a father then his son.

Re: Intended purpose of our trucks

My truck started out as a fire truck, and then was a maintenance truck for a local municipality at some small airports, so it started its life working, but was not driven much. Its a driver, work truck for me. I've towed and hauled with it right from the start, and it takes me up in the hills every chance I get.

Re: Intended purpose of our trucks

I just put a plow on my 72 and I am contemplating taking it off the road for a few years. I've got really young kids and the truth is, I am not getting very far restoring this truck any time in the near future. When they get older, I'll nice it up some and use it as a daily driver, go fishing in north Idaho, take it hunting, etc. For now, I will just try to keep it from rusting and drive it on the property.
