Recommended Stall Speed
Here's my setup: 72 Blazer 4WD, 3.73 gear ratio, 35 inch tires, stock TH350. The engine is a fresh Vortec 350 (355) with the HT 383 cam, Quadrajet & HEI, 2.5 ram's horns. The truck is going to be a daily driver and it's not going to the race track, but a decent launch would be nice. Dependability is high on the list of importance.
So what stall speed should I be looking for? Thanks.

Re: Recommended Stall Speed
With that cam you need a stock torque converter. However the 3.73 gears are a little high for 35" tires. A small stall converter, say 1200-1500 will help mask that problem, but not the correct way to go about it.

Re: Recommended Stall Speed
Sorry, I mis-typed; they're actually 33s.
I had planned to put the stock converter back in, but it never hurts to ask.

Re: Recommended Stall Speed
With 3.73's and 33" tires, you should be able to run a stock stall converter. A 355 with that cam will make good low end torque.

Re: Recommended Stall Speed
We are building a 72 Jimmy for my teenager. We went with the 204/214 cam from Summit which is pretty much the same as the Edelbrock Performer cam.
Truck has 3.73 8 lug axles for an '84 Suburban. We will be running 35" tires. I have 35's on mine with the 4 speed and the converter slippage of the auto should be about same cruising rpm. We went with the Summit 1800-2000 rpm converter which should be well above the stall speed cruising on the road. Hopefully that turns out to be a good choice...
