Random scans for the board

Ill be scanning images out of my old magazines. Ill share a bunch on the board. No theme except mostly (not all) will be auto related, and no not all will be GM. I may burn out very quickly (heh) or it might get crazy =) The large versions of these will be available in my gallery.

Link to my gallery if you want to see bigger pics. Click on the picture you want to see larger in my gallery and view larger image below it. https://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery...00&ppuser=4101

Re: Random scans for the board

Those sure bring back some memories of my youth.

I had one of those shirts. I don't think it was a Roth. I got it at the county fair. It was an Econoline van but looked something like the truck in my avatar and it said something like Hauling Ass. My mother saw it and had a fit and put one of those iron on patches over the ass part so you couldn't see it.

She didn't like that shirt at all. I really didn't after she put that dumb patch on it.

Cool pix! One of my uncles was career Army and bought one of those SC/Ramblers. Wouldn't sell it to me, the miserable ****epoke. Of course, I probably would have killed myself in it.

Re: Random scans for the board

Thanks for coming up with a great thread idea. I don't remember any of this . Just kidding, I never left.

I remember ordering an Ed "Big Daddy" Roth iron-on and doing my own shirt. It was a '55 Chevy. On a lot of the ads in the back of magazines you could send away for stickers and catalogs. I remember sending away for an assortment of "The Judge" stickers.

Re: Random scans for the board

The "Judge' reminds me of going with my brother to go look at one when he was car shopping. I thought it was cool but it had had a hard life. A little too hard for my brother. It wasn't really beat up just extremely worn out. He passed and got a nice 71 Roadrunner.

Re: Random scans for the board

I wonder if Shelby had his eyes on the AC Ace back in 59?

Sorry bad original, but I always liked these cars so I added it

I have tons of this style of magazine, even some in the little book format, thumbing through them Im not finding them as hilarious as when I was a kid haha!

Definitely. I remember calling them AC Cobras when they were new. Ford didn't build them. The way I understand it, Shelby asked AC to build him one to accept a V8. They agreed because the 6cyl engines they ran had been discontinued and they were needing a replacement. Shelby first went to Chevy but they declined because they didn't want competition for the Vette. The AC Ace ended up with a Ford 221 and they sent models w/o engine to Shelby who put 289s in.

Re: Random scans for the board

He was still a top driver in the sports car world in 59, only quit racing because of his heart problems. He must have had building his own car on his mind even while still being a driver. Like you said he went to AC for bodies and Ford for engines after striking out with GM ... And the rest is history.

Re: Random scans for the board

Yeah, and it didn't take long after he retired. He went to build this car in '61.

I'm enjoying these scans. Thanks
