Goodyear or Cooper

I'm due a new set of tires which are currently Goodyeay Eagle II P275/45R20. I've had a couple mechanics suggest Cooper mainly because they're a bit cheaper. What do you guys run on 20's? Btw, I hate noisey tires. Is there a tire that'll help reduce side to side motion?

Re: Goodyear or Cooper

My experience has with Cooper Cobra's vs Les Swabb Gran Prix's. The had about the same lifespan but the Cooper's wet weather track was markedly worse. This may be more of an issue for me here in Portland OR than for you in sunny Florida. They were 275\60\15s on a 1991 S-10 Blazer 4.3.

Re: Goodyear or Cooper

The tire guy said he sees worse wear on the Coopers so I stayed with Goodyear. They lasted longer than I expected and would have even longer it it was aligned.

I was also surprised by the guys who did the previous alignment saying there was no camber spec, so no adjustment done. The new guy knows better I think.

Re: Goodyear or Cooper

I've had a zillion sets of tires and Goodyear always perform really well, last long, and don't have catastrophic problems like blowout or de-tread. They're not cheap, but you get what you pay for IMO . . .

Re: Goodyear or Cooper

I think Michelin gets high ratings.

I'd suggest buying a copy of CONSUMER REPORTS.

My car has Summic tires and they have been really good......lasted about 35K miles so far but are very worn down now. Usually a set of tires lasts me 3 years but these are on their 4th year. Major downside is how loud they are! I would not buy them again due to the noise but the performance and price were great.

Re: Goodyear or Cooper

I ended up buying the Goodyear tires since the installer didn't like how the Cooper's wore. When I had my van, I really like Michelins.

The new tires made a huge difference, mainly because they're balanced. They're nice. Time will tell how long they'll last, but I expect I'll get more 40k miles since I'm sure I put over 30k since I had the burb and they weren't new then.

Re: Goodyear or Cooper

I've had the best luck with be goodrich, Goodyear and Nitto tires. I had a set of Michelin on one of my cars, 16k miles and the sidewalls were cracking. They pro rated the warranty but still...
I'm actually looking to buy a tire machine and balancer now- that's how many tires I seem to go through...
I've heard a lot of negative about Cooper, Kuhmo and the no name tires.

Re: Goodyear or Cooper

If it matters(it does matter to me!) Cooper is the only one of those mentioned in this post that are all made in U.S.A.!
The others could be made anywhere.
Mike.

Re: Goodyear or Cooper

i just had a pair of coopers on my sonoma, not the cobras but the lesser ones. I had the metal band split on me on the highway and chew up my rim and fender. and the tire was about 6 months old.
