I want to take the rear hubs off the 72 C20. Quite rusty. I don't see the 3 screws holding the hub on. Will just the hubs come off or do I have to pull the axles?

After you remove the axle you will see the mechanism that holds the hub in place. There is a lock ring, a lock nut and a bearing adjusting nut. This is all from old memory.

OP - are you asking how to remove the brake drum?

This is a full floating axle. You have to remove the eight bolts in the middle and pull your axle. With the axle out you will see the lock nut that has to come out to pull the hub. Careful: heavy!!
On a side note: That's one of the reasons why I replaced mine with a newer 14-bolt, more parts, better gears and you don't have to pull the hub to work on the brakes.

The Dana 60 has the removable drums not the HO52. With the HO52 you have to remove the 8 axle shaft bolts and go in that way

The early 14-bolts require removing the axles to remove the drums. There are pros and cons involved with using the period correct Corporate 14-Bolt 10.5 FF axles. One is the smaller diameter drums allow 15" wheels to fit where the later model 14's will not..."Just sayin"

Judging from the condition of that hub and drum on the outside, I wouldn't be a bit surprised that after the axle's pulled and the bearing nuts removed, that drum wont budge. That often requires cutting the heads off the nail pins that hold the shoes in place, and then cutting/or removing the wheel cylinder bolts and using a punch to collapse the shoes enough to remove the drum. The early Full Floaters didn't have adjuster slots in the backing plates, they were in the drums themselves and often served no use at all...A cutting torch to cut springs inside the hole where the wheel cylinder "was" will allow you to collapse the shoes enough to remove the drums...

My 68 C-20 has a Dana 60 with out board drums.
My 99 has inboard drums yet what a pain.

The drum come off no problem. Nothing left of the linings. Can't believe the drum is not grooved.

That's what I really like to use and it has the additive for limited slip differentials already in it. Or just use a good 80W-90 gear oil and add the limited slip additive.
