Post The Windshield is in!!!

Finally, the glass shop got the windshield installed. I watched them struggle a couple of weeks ago using a $30.00 aftermarket gasket. They ordered one from GM and the difference was amazing. The chrome trim fit right in, did not need to be taped to make is stay like the other gasket. The rubber was much softer and fit the windshield better. The whole thing installed beautifully. I installed the inner front fenders today also. Its about ready to roll. I am still having problems with it running hot. At least that is what the guage is saying. I have a few more things to try (I've tried 3 different thermostats) to get it to run cooler. Two more weeks and its back on the road - for the first time since June 2000.

Did they get it right from a dealer? Sounds like a headache I'd like to avoid when the time comes. Do you know how much it was?

Actually the windshield had a crack in it so I turned it into my insurance company so the whole thing cost me a $100.00 deductible - windshield and gasket. The glass shop ordered it right from the local Chevy dealer. Some dealers will give you a price break if you ask.

I bought the cheap gasket a couple of years ago. Broke 1 windshield myself. Took the pros 3 tries and 2 weeks to get the next in. That taiwan gasket is very hard. At that time the gm gasket was $80.

My boy and I put in our first windshield last week. We bought a new gasket LMC and our only other experience was the rear window. I did take three tries to get a feel for it but it is in fine lots of wd40 to lube and nylon string and all is fine. The gasket was 35 dollars the glass was $75.00. Good luck Ed ke6bnl
