Need as much info on changing a 2 wheel drive, 70 suburban to 4x4 suburban.
Is there like 1980 or newer frame that the body will fit on with out too much change???
thanks

I have been thinking about the same thing with my 67 Suburban.

I know the long bed square body truck has a 4" longer wheel base than a long bed 67-72 truck so chances are that the Suburban is the same way so no real easy frame swap to be had.

Is your Suburban trailing arm rear suspension or the optional leaf spring rear?

The rear frame rails are different between the factory 4x4 and 2wd trucks so it would not be a straight bolt in from a 67-72 donor 4x4 truck. If you can find a 67-72 GMC parts truck with the stock 2wd rear leaf spring setup or a Chevy with the optional leaf in the back you can easily convert your trailing arm rear suspension to leaf that way.

The front requires a little rework of the parking brake cable boss and routing as the rear pivot bracket for the shackle sits right on top of that location.

The front spring mount will depend upon which length spring you use. A correct 67-72 spring is shorter than the 73-87(91) square body 4x4 front spring. Unfortunately the square body mount is very different from the one you will need to attach your core support to. A little custom front hanger mods will be needed to blend a 2wd core support bracket to a square body bracket if you can't locate an original 67-72 part to install.

Hope this helps.

Re: 2 wd to 4 wd

I read ''YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN'' thread he use a 2001 frame, that to many wires for me and I'm a electrician lol.
''Is your Suburban trailing arm rear suspension or the optional leaf spring rear?''
My burb is on bags with drop spindles, c notched. theirs a 70 4x4 on cl but that to much $ and I really like the 67-67 . So i need full list of parts to compare the cost.

''Hope this helps''. this just made me more
thanks

Re: 2 wd to 4 wd

A square body Sub or Blazer would be a great suspension & drivetrain donor. A Sub might be workable for a frame swap with a little work.
