Air intake pipe/hose replacment on 00 5.3

I'd like to get rid of the big ugly factory intake pipe (with the muffler chambers) from the air cleaner to the throttle body on my 00 5.3 Does anyone know of a replacment aftermarket pipe? I dont want to buy the kit that has the pipe and air cleaner (I already have a K&N installed in the factory box) I just want the pipe.
Or, has anyone made one and can share how? thanks!

Airaid makes one that you can buy - it is the same one they use in their kit. I got mine off of ebay for around $100.

Man, those kits are unbelievably expensive! A 18" peice of polyethelyne plastic hose and a filter for $325....wow! Why are they so much? is there a sensor incorporated into the pipe or something that I am missing?

Re: Air intake pipe/hose replacment on 00 5.3

some might have mass airflow sensors, but they are expensive because it is a support mod. The mod itself doesn't add much power, but if you don't get it then everything else you would do to add power won't because of the restrictive airflow. So it is a necessity for high power engines and the companys know that..

Anyone here made their own? or modified the stock unit by cutting off the sound chambers and resealing the tube?

just get pvc piping for the tube, then go down to o reilly and buy a cone filter for it and you will have like a $75 intake that most ppl are paying over $300 for

I've seen several home fabbed systems at the truck gatherings around our area. Most are better looking than those expensive ones.
