Help on ID'ing a few things on a 5.3L

Can anyone help me identify a few things on my 2006 5.3L?

#1 - Sensor on front of intake, right behind the TB:

#2 - The hose that runs from the sensor in #1 runs to the back of the engine on the drivers side and was disconnected from something. What is the hose suppose to plug in to? (end of hose is #1)

#3 - The vent hose on the transmission splits and runs toward the engine and ends with a check valve. the other end was loose. Any idea where that end with the "?" goes?

#4 - This sensor above the starter:

#5 - This module, looks as though it was on the inside of the cab:

#6 - This gizmo was tied around the negative battery cable near the battery terminal end, and ran straight to the PCM:

Thanks in advance for any help ID'ing this stuff!!!!

Re: Help on ID'ing a few things on a 5.3L

I just had mine all apart. would have to look at the manual for exact names. Do you have a manual? if not go get one. mine was a life saver.
the hose in pic 2 conects to the port withe the 2 white dots just to the right of your hand.
the sensor above the starter is the crank position sensor.
Thats all i can id right now with out going out and looking at mine and fliping threw the manual.

OK, thanks. I though I disconnected wires from both of those, so I'll have to look again tonight.

No one makes a manual for a 5.3 Vortec in an 85 GMC.

Re: Help on ID'ing a few things on a 5.3L

sorry man i was wrong. the tube is part of the evap system and connects to a metal tube that runs along with the fuel lines to the tank. so the sensor the tube goes to is some sort of vacum valve.
I took a bunch of pics with my digital during the taredown just incase i forgot where stuff went and labeled every plug i un did even tho most will only go in one place.

Cool, thanks! I'm doing away with the EVAP, so I can probably just pull the sensor out and make a dummy plug for that hole in the manifold then.

Thanks again!

Re: Help on ID'ing a few things on a 5.3L

1 Is the Evap system purge solenoid.
2 Is the purge hose. It goes back to the fuel system, the purge solenoid pulls fumes through it and burns them instead of venting them into the atmosphere.
3 Just hangs down, if the trans overheats and blows off fluid it will go under the truck instead of all over everything if it came out of the top vent
4 Is the crank sensor like already mentioned.
5 Is the Body control module (BCM) mostly controls interior features like door locks and such.
6 Is the Generator battery comtrol module. Basically it uses amperage draw, battery temp. etc. to regulate the battery charge voltage.
If there's anything you need more info. on let me know. I have the world of GM at my fingertips... for now

Re: Help on ID'ing a few things on a 5.3L

Beauty, thanks Mike!! Is #6 necessary, or can I have to removed too? I've never seen one before. The battery on the 85 is on the passenger side, but I might move it to the drivers side to keep hooking up the 5.3 harness easier. But if I left it on the pass side I'd have to extend all the wires for the #6 thingy.

Re: Help on ID'ing a few things on a 5.3L

You should be able to have it removed. It defaults to 13.8v if it's unplugged or has a problem. As long as someone can program the PCM to not set the code for it all should be good.
