Steering coupler Issue.

Does anyone know if these are different from a 2wd to 4wd. The one pictured came right off a 2wd power steering gear with ease as soon as I loosened the bolt. I’m trying to install it to my new 4wd steering gear and it doesn’t seem to fit. LMC sells them and lists 2 different part numbers but it say manual gear for one and power steering for the other. This one came off a power steering gear just for a 2wd. I don’t want to spend the $50 get to get the same one.
Thanks

Re: Steering coupler issue

So im still on the hunt for the correct steering coupler. I found the specs of the power steering gear I installed which helps but still have some questions. My input shaft is .80 in diameter and has 30 spline count. Therefore I’m assuming I need a 30 spline rag joint. I found plenty of 3/4 x 30 spline rag joints but my diameter is .80. The part store says my truck calls out a 13/16 x 36 spline rag joint so now I’m even more confused. Any help on this would be much appreciated. I’ve posted my steering gear specs below. Thanks

Re: Steering coupler shaft

That doesn’t really help with my issue. I’m trying to determine which one I need. That part you gave me doesn’t tell me any spline count info or what the diameter is. My question is since my power steering gear I installed is .80 diameter with a 30 spline does that mean I need the 3/4 x 30 spline or the 13/16 which matches my diameter but can’t find a 13/16 in a 30 spline only a 36. My assumption is I need a 3/4 x 30 but the fact that it says my diameter is slightly bigger than 3/4 makes me concerned about ordering that one.

Re: Steering coupler shaft

31 LBS for a steering coupler?

several years ago I went to replace my rag joint, the repro stuff was junk and had odd hardware. appriciating the unique hardware for GM stuff I scrounged 3 complete rag joints with hardware from other trucks and ended up using the rag joint from a DORMAN kit for a Chrysler. beautiful. now who knows but I keep recomending corvette vendors for origonality. You pay..... but only once.

Your 7502 gear box seems to be a partial part number from A-1 Cardone , I know the tag you put here says 30 splines ,but did you actuly count the splines because that part nuber comes up as a 31 spline gearbox, if this is the case then you would need a Lares steering coupler part # 201

From flat to flat there are 31 splines. Guess that’s what I get for assuming the specifications tag was correct

Re: Steering coupler shaft

Here's a question to confuse you further: do you have a flat spot where there are no splines? If there were splines there, would the spline count all the way around equal about 36? I bet you have a 13/16" 36 spline. I ran into that when I bought a box that was supposedly a 3/4" 30 spline but was defintely not. I believe Jrainman has it correct with the Lares 201. If you google that part, it also comes up with several different specs like 31 spline or 36 spline. It has literally 30 or 31 splines, but some people count the flat spot as having splines, which would be 36. Unfortunately, nobody explains that and people throw money at parts that are supposed to fit. Please stay away from LMC. Rockauto has the rag joint for less than $16. $50 is ridiculous for a piece of rubber and a couple metal straps.

Yes I have a flat. And 31 splines from flat to flat. I usually just use lmc to find parts and/or part differences. The catelog is helpful when finding parts. Not so much rag joints tho lol. Thanks I’m going to go with the lares 201 from rock auto .

Re: Steering coupler shaft

Rock auto part numbers 200 and 201. These are nice units and I just installed the 13/16 one on a vehicle. Made by Lares and 16 dollars each. One is the small diameter, the other is the larger one.
