Rams horn on vortec heads

Hey everybody. I'm about to swap my 327 out for a 283 that was built with vortec heads. I looked in the faqs but couldn't find whether they will fit. The pictures show them mounted to the 327. Thanks in advance...

I'm pretty sure they'll bolt on no problem. The intakes are vortec specific but the exhaust retains the same bolt pattern.

Why didn't you put those heads on the 327?

Re: Rams horn on vortec heads

The 283 came out of a friend of mines '66. He had it built at a speed shop and when they checked the heads they were cracked so he bought the vortec heads from summit. He then sold his truck and the engine needed a home so I bought it. The 327 was using oil on me. I'm giving it to another friend so he can rebuild it.

Any manifold or header works on vortecs, they are normal SBC heads. Intakes the only real difference.

Beautiful looking engine. What flavor of red is that? I notice many guys going toward red and away from the original orange.

Thanks, I hate to take it out but it is using too much oil. Believe it or not the can said chevy orange but it does look to be a little more red.

Re: Rams horn on vortec heads

Thanks all for the info. I was reading some other forums and had me concerned that they would interfere with the valve covers. I plan on just pulling the 327 and dropping the 283 in. Just wanted to be sure the exhaust would bolt up.

Now I need to figure out how to setup my TH-350 kickdown cable and bracket mounted to the vortec intake with an edelbrock 1406 carburetor.
