Originality Preservation & Documentation - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Just need some experienced opinions: I'm the 2nd owner of my Father-in-Law's '66 C-10 shown here right after he bought it. I have the dealer receipt, SPID, Protect-O-Plate, Owner's Manual. It's original 292 has been rebuilt 3 times. 1 barrel carb been replaced a few times. So it's an "original 2 owner". Was my daily driver for many years but not anymore. It will stay in the garage. Any recommendations on how I can preserve it's originality? It's licensed and insured but only for occassional use and I'm working on freshening it up.

By preserving it's originality in parts.
And drive it once in a while.
Keep it clean, inside and out.
Park it over a plastic drop cloth, not dirt or cement.

Good intentions, sounds like. Damage control is where preservation begins. First and foremost, keep it out of harms way; whether by man or mother nature. Often times a misguided attempt to clean or repair turns into outright destruction of history and originality. Take it slow and follow a plan that has an end goal while maintaining what you want to preserve. Go one step at a time and keep it driving if at all possible. Way too many projects like this get taken apart and spread out over many years, ultimately getting scrapped or sold piece by piece in baskets.
