Horn recommendation
My 51 3100 has no horn. I've never had to put a horn in any vehicle before so I have no idea where to start. Truck has a 12v system. I have an 81 c10 I could take the horns out of but I don't know if that is my best option. I looked in my old truck part catalogs and on ebay and I've still got no idea. I don't want anything fancy. I just want it to sound like an old truck. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? ---Jack

The c10 horn should work just fine, think they are pretty loud too. Might put a train horn in mine. Put one in a friends F150 and it was LOUD, people also got out of the way quick!!

Loud. I think the original 6V was directly wired, 12v used a horn relay. I had a bunch laying around from various 50's, 60's and early 70's and bench tested them for the best sound one to me. Haven't mounted them yet, want to get all the AC done first.

Jack,
Angryman is right. That C10 horn will work just fine. It comes from a 12V vehicle and should hook right up to your existing wiring. It'll sound just like an '81 truck, is quick & easy to do, and best of all they're free since you have them.  I suspect it will be, but if it's not enough horn for your liking, you can use them when needed while you're looking (listening?) for something aftermarket. BTW, I've got a pair from a 6V system flanking my engine on the inner fenders. They're quite loud on 12V:

You want loud and even more so you want commanding. I have a set of horns I saved off one of the Cadillacs I have had in the past for my truck. Mid/late 70's that demand attention when you honk them.

When I had my '46 rewired the guy recommends early 70's Ford horns as they were really loud. He was right, they cost him $12 at Pick A Part and I was very happy with them.

I used a pair of Cadillac horns (late 70's early 80's) on my 50, loud enough. Snagged a pair of horns off a BMW that are very loud, saving them for a future project.
BTW, grab BOTH horns off whatever late model vehicle you choose, using them individually will be disappointing.

I'm using an old horn that was found from an estate sale. I'm not 100% sure I like it or not. Maybe I'll trade it out down the road.
