C4 Corvette Axles installed.....

Do any of you have this done? I am looking for an idea as to what the ride hight is like with the flat out engineering kit. I REALLY dont want to C channel my frame but also dont want to get this all installed and then tear it apart cause i dont like the ride height.

I searched all over the site and the search function wont let me search for C4, and I looked all over flat out's site but he doesnt know the specs on any of the builds on his site.

Re: C4 Corvette Axles installed.....

I have a C4 IRS under my 49. And a 76 Camaro clip under the front. I barely notched the rear frame to sit the C4's batwing a little higher in the frame, but only about 3/4 of an inch. It's not pretty, but it sure does ride nice. These pics are as I was putting it together. Name: P4090139 - Copy.jpg

Re: C4 Corvette Axles installed.....

First off, thats a freakin nice truck. The stance isnt bad but I think I want it a little lower. I think I am gonna Try and sit the batwing all the way into the C towards the top of it and see where it sits. If that doesnt work I may look into notching it or building a new rear frame rail like Corona did.

Re: C4 Corvette Axles installed.....

if you retain the stock cross leaf spring and Bilstein shocks you can run the rear ride height anywhere you want by using longer/shorter bolts between the spring and bird cage. I've got 3 sets of them.

Mine is a 57 with 76 T/A front stub and C4 rear. Rides and handles great.

Re: C4 Corvette Axles installed.....

Howdy Mavdog, I'm running 89 C4 front and rear in my 54. Using the Progressive Automotive front cross member kit and home built in on the rear. I think once you slid your IRS up under your frame you'll see why notching might be a good idea. As you know the 54 frame rails in the rear are almost flat where as the 47 to 53 rail have a bet more radius and the later models are also narrower than the 54. When I slid my IRS under my frame I had the clearance of a stock truck. I've included the link to my build hope its of some use to you, and please feel free to message me I'd be happy to help if I could. Also if i were to do another one like this I'd make a narrower rear clip and weld it in. hope this helps....http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=419646

Re: C4 Corvette Axles installed.....

tmoble, I was under the impression from quite a view posts I saw that the stock rear leaf on the C4 suspension rides really harsh??

Deabt, I am gonna check out your thread right now. I have my axle positioned under the frame right now but the body is still on my other frame so yea I cant really tell where its sitting. Ill mess around a bit with it and maybe get my running boards transferred over to get an idea.

Thanks fellas

Re: C4 Corvette Axles installed.....

mavdog, mine doesn't ride rough in the back. mine's a little firm in the front but that's because of the 1.25" front stabilizer bar. The back is fine. We have those speed humps in our neighborhood, it's better over those than our stock 2001 S-10 4WD Blazer.

Re: C4 Corvette Axles installed.....

I read a bunch of the same saying the stock trans leaf would be too stiff or not stiff enough etc. But most of it came from the companies trying to sell the coil-overs along with the kits. After coming from 60+ year old leaf springs, it handles awesome. I never put the sway bar on either, doesnt seem to need it. Of course I'm not Auto-crossing it. I'm just someone that scored a C4 rear for $150, and spent $60 for some plate steel, welded up some brackets, and improved my ride 1000%. I wish I had the talent and the patience to fab up some metal work like some members, but I just want to peel out and get thumbs-up as I drive.

Re: C4 Corvette Axles installed.....

sorry to drag this one up again but....

I got the front end done and now have moved to the back. I am having to bust hump cause I am moving across country to NC here in a few months and Im having to do it myself since i cant come up with 800 bucks for a kit by the time I leave.

My question is two parts:
1. When the vehicle is at ride height, are the acle shafts parallel to the ground?
2. Is there a specific angle that the two arms the attach to the frame are supposed to be at, when at ride height?

Re: C4 Corvette Axles installed.....

I'd stick my head under a stock Corvette and see what it looks like but I do believe that they are pretty close to parallel with the floor.

Re: C4 Corvette Axles installed.....

Sorry, the lower rear control arms and axles should be level when at ride height.

Re: C4 Corvette Axles installed.....

SuperCheyenne is correct Shannon (Xpickup) is working in my 51 C4 build the half shafts should be level when loaded. As far as stock spring vs coil overs both will work stock rate is adjustable via end links..but will be alittle choppy. Think about the vett 150 -300 + lbs of driver /passanger right infront of the rear wheels. We put coil overs in the pick up but will ues the stock spring on the Suburban. Shannon is the best & will help you out.

Re: C4 Corvette Axles installed.....

Cool, thanks for the info guys. I wanted to make sure before I went welding anything. I think I will try to get the ride height and rate close with the stock spring. If that doesnt work out then I will just roll with coil overs.
