Give me ideas...new project

I have had 4x4 trucks my entire life and i just got my hands on a 1984 c30. I dont know what direction i want to go with the truck. Ive considered a 4x4 swap as ive done one before but with my reasearch im thinking i have a c&c truck(will have to shorten frame to make a dually bed look correct and not lookkn to do that much right now) so im hung up on how to set this truck up...work truck and keep it 2wd or 4x4 swap it and put it on 35s.. I hate the rake it has so id like to raise the front regaurdless. Its geared at 4.56 so thatll be changed in time. And from what i can tell its pretty original byt i hate red so paint in due time.

Ill give some info on the truck and what ive done so far and yall throw some ideas this way. Just looking for something to give me some sense of direction.

1984 chevrolet c30 (believe to be c&c dont want to say i have completly confirmed that)
Sbc 350 all stock down to the q jet. (Eventually gonna get pulled just to freshen up...rings..seals..maybe a small cam for tourqe..headers..intake..carb(i like the qjet as it is but it will have to go...preference)
Th400 thst i just rebuilt when i got the truck.
4.56 gears...want to go to 4.11 or so to help with running 60 at 3k right now.
Only rust is in the mirror mounts..i have...better..doors to go on it when i get around to painting. Im thinking black cherry or a rootbeer color.

Re: Give me ideas...new project

my friend has a c&c 135" truck and we put a bed on it . unless you know what to look for the gap is not bad at all and most people dont notice it at all .

std cab long bed is 131.5" and if you lift the c&c the rear axle will swing forward a bit and then center the box and bolt it down . thats how we did his .

sweetk30 i need to pull a tape on mine and find out forsure weather it is or not. Do you have a pic of his. I seen another guy that put a bed on with no cutting and it looked like i could fit a 2 liter botltle between the bed and the cab

Welcome....you do have a c/c truck...not sure on your wheelbase vs a dually...my c30 was looooong...I cut 5ft out of the frame when I shortened jt.....keep in mind the if you use a dually bed you may want to swap the rear axle to a dually axle...about 6in diff in those....

Full rubber floor mat, bed stakes, good wash and polish along with a tune up. Done!
I would love to get one like that.
Nice

Im currently working a craft show with my wife so forgive me if im vage yall.

Mongo What is it that says c&c to you. My reasearch has been a little contradicting...i should add this is the forst 1 ton ive ever messed with. Not too much differnce but slight differmces from half tons and 3/4 to this. Ive seen differences in the frames(where the hump is for the rear axle) mentioned along with wheelbase...axle width(seen several doing a longhorn bed..its different) this is all research within this fourm over several months and have honestly lost myself for hours searching so deep for a definitive answer. I am going to pull a tape sunday and see if that gives an answer

Thanks. That was my initial plan but....i have that problem where i dont know how to leave things alone. Wooden bed rails are coming along with a new wood floor and painting the ring on it. Thats the only thing i know im going to do tho..aesthetically anyway. And the rubber mat is a must

Re: Give me ideas...new project

center to center of axles

131.5 = std cab long bed
135 = std cab reg c&c length
longer = long versions of them . some were 164.5 . basicly a crew cab frame with std cab on it and looong flat bed .

all i got for pics now of his truck . it will be getting a redo this winter he hopes if i have time . swapping the bed for a military bed off a 3/4 ton trailer then full paint and install front and rear winches . she is built sbc / 4500/205/4.56 / locked x2 axles .

Re: Give me ideas...new project

It looks c&c. You can barely squeeze your hand between the leaf spring and the brake backing plate with the narrow c&c axle. See pics.

Sounds like you should start with something else for a 4X4.

Re: Give me ideas...new project

I'm basing the c&c guess on the rear axle width...the outside of the rear tires will only be a couple inches wider than the cab...a dually will have a whole tire and then some outside the cab width...on mine you can't slide a paint stick between the axle u-bolts and the brake backer plate...it's that close...nearly impossible to bleed rear brakes
