Power Steering Return Line Hard Line

What years use the same power steering return hard line, the tube that screws into the power steering box. Previous owner took that with them when they pulled the motor so now I need to find one. Was hoping to find one in a junk yard but later models are easier to find then our 72 and down years. Am I right to assume that atleast up thru 1987 would have the same return tube as our trucks? How about later years? What about flare vs o-ring? Do I need to worry about that starting at a certain year they switched to flare? As much as I like junkyarding I am not looking forward to this hunt. Anyone got a spare laying around?

Re: Power Steering Return Line Hard Line

why don't you just buy one from any auto part store or rockauto, which is where I got my lines for my 72

IMHO a used original would be in need of replacing

Napa has them too, not sure if I misunderstood your post but the return line is part hard line leaving the steering box then turns to a soft line that is clamped

Yes, I am talking about the hard line that leaves the steering box. Before it transitions to the rubber line.

I have seen new ones being sold at multiple sources. But they want $20+ for that little piece of tubing. And with this project already spiralling out of control I am trying to save everywheren I can now.

Maybe a short piece of brake line with the correct flare fitting for the steering box? Cut off one end and bend as needed? Nicopp brake line is easy to work with.

Re: Power Steering Return Line Hard Line

The bend is sharp out of the box and I found it difficult to bend out of tubing.
Don't forget the little clip on the frame, maybe inline has it if yours is missing.
Cheers

Surprisingly the PO left frame clamp/clip so I have that luckily. Thanks for thinking of that though.

Re: Power Steering Return Line Hard Line

rockauto has several "brands" of PS hoses ranging from $9-18, both in M or F fitting. IDK if all the brands are made offshore, but likely are. For me, the ones I got worked fine. The return lines are cut to fit.

They also just sell the metal section for less $. I just bought a few feet of bulk soft line for trans fluid at local auto part store and used my existing hard line end for return line and bought the pressure line when I got my steering box from RA

my hoses
