ok i have a 84 k10 blazer jus wondering to find a easier way to find gear ratio do these have stamps on the housing (i havnt looked yet) like the 67-72 trucks do

Jack up the rear (or front if 4wd) and support on jack stands so both wheels are off the ground. Put the transmission in neutral (transfer case if 4wd) and spin the wheel one revolution and count how many revolutions the driveshaft makes. It's easier to count if you mark the driveshaft and wheel with a chalk mark. The number of revolutions the driveshaft makes is your ratio. Wheel 1 turn, driveshaft little less than 3 and a half, you probably have 3.43 gears. Hope this helps.
I don't think I would trust an external marking even if there was one.
