Did Chevy sell any '71 or '72 trucks with blacked out grills?

My '71 Custom/10 (K10) had a blacked out grill but was otherwise stock when I bought it in '82 and I've seen other "egg crate" grills painted black.
So I was wondering if this was ever an option or trim feature offered from the factory or dealers or it was just an owner customizing thing.

For the record I think it looks good on some trucks and not so much on others.
Does anyone have any history on this?

Thumbs up Re: Did Chevy sell any '71 or '72 trucks with blacked out grills?

I painted my 72 grill flat black and it looked pretty sharp! IMO
Before I started the frame off of truck it was white on red, so the black grill wasn't overbearing...

I did when I was 17 on my 72. Then again, I did the same to my Dad's Dodge Dart when he was at work one day... Last unauthorized paint job I ever attempted I prefer the stock silver. No, factory never did black as Scott mentioned above.

Every Chevy light truck from Blazer to C/30 had the exact same grille in 69-72.

That's a convincing "NO".

Thanks.

confused?? 69/70 had the wide band in middle, and 71/72 were egg crate - I thought. headlight trim could be black, but the crate was not. Not intending to step on toes, I'm relatively new to these trucks - either I'm missing something or I read it wrong. Clarification?

Just $5 square of vinyl and a razor. The color possibilities are endless. Have fun.
