It's honestly great and I get calls all the time about work. Guess my name is a good one around town. I turn 18 in 5 days on amother note!!!! And am so happy I get to build this truck while young!!!! That way I can enjoy it later on in life.

Re: Spitfire

So story time, I was at work today, and this older gentleman and his wife walk in. I make theirs sandwiches and complement his old square body (k10 4x4) and he says thanks. We start talking trucks and I spend my entire break chatting with him and his wife. I pull my phone out and show him spitfire and his jaw drops. He's like "I owned that truck, I painted it back in the 90s and had to sell it because I was moving. Does it run?" I said it didn't but I got her going. After that we talked about the truck. Small world eh?

Yes. It runs from the driver's side of the carburetor to the passenger's side of the transmission.

Re: Spitfire

So guys I feel like a complete idiot at the moment. She ran like crap and was hard to start. I was fed up. New plugs wires etc. She needed more idle lol. Now she's running good. Don't die if I have her on the brakes

Exclamation Re: Spitfire

You're no ' idiot ' ~ you're 18 years old and learning ~ give yourself a break .

When you do anLOF on an expen$ive piece of equipments and let the driver take it out to discover 1/2 way across the bridge near the shop that you forgot to replace the engine's oil and it SEIZES UP RUNING THE ENTIRE ENGINE, then you can beat your self up .

Yes, one of the best Mechanics in my shop did this once, no one understands how / why .

He was mortified .

I about did that to a derby car but instead of doing it on accident I got mad and full tracked someone and punched a hole in the oil filter. The engine was screaming so fast that it wouldn't lock up........

Re: Spitfire

So guys, the engine still smokes, but it dont feel like rings, when you try and turn it by hand it feels like a 350 with good compression, could the valve seals be causing this or is my 350 in need of a rebuild? it dont use to much oil.

Post Exhaust Smoking

O.K., here where you're going to separate the wheat from the chaff so to speak, some will not have the experience to understand so pay attention .

You must begin with a well tuned engine, this means spark plug gauge, (they're _NEVER_ 'pre gapped' !) dwell meter and inductive timing light plus paying attention to detail .

? Does it smoke under acceleration of when your foot is off the throttle and the engine is slowing the vehicle down ? . the difference is huge in terms of what's causing the smoke and what to do next .

O.K.;

The deal here is to make it run as best it can then you can approach the smoking ~ no need to throw lots of $ at it here, just you will need to buy some tools, Pawn and Thrift Shops plus tag/yard sales can really be cheap here, maybe ask me off line how to test / evaluate used tools, I understand you're 18 and you've not yet mentioned being rich (if you're rich, do you need a Chauffeur/mechanic ?) .

shes running great as of now, not rich, but not poopr, did i mention i basically live on my own, I have a small collection of basic handtools, not to many specialty tools. not to many power tools either.

The smoking dont feel like rings, ive had fourwheelers that had bad rings, and this dont feel like that, almost feels like it is sucking oil from the heads, or such. right bank smokes about double of passenger side bank.

Re: Spitfire

You'll get some great advice from some experienced people here. I am not one of those with a lot of experience. But I just wanted to throw it out there that you can borrow a compression tester from a local parts store. It's an easy test, and might shed some light.

Again, please take the advice of the more experienced members above mine. I'm not trying to change their direction at all. But wanted to make sure you knew that loaner tools are out there. They can really be a great thing, considering the purchase costs of some of them.

Good luck, and I'll be watching this. I know you'll get it figured out.

Re: Spitfire

Can you post up a video? Popping out the exhaust could just be from an exhaust leak, something headers are famous for. If we can see the smoke, that would also help.

The clanking was a front u joint, that has been fixed, the dying at the end was it running outa gas, and the grinding was the old starter being a jerk.
