Craftsman at Lowes

I went to my local Lowes this afternoon and noticed they've started stocking Craftsman tools. They didn't have a huge selection, but there were some sets and toolboxes.

Re: Craftsman at Lowes

Yep noticed that last weekend, Sears sold it off to Stanley /Black and Decker. So probably see it in several locations now.

Re: Craftsman at Lowes

Up here in Canada there are Craftsman tools now at Reno Depot/Rona - they are owned by Lowes.

Re: Craftsman at Lowes

OSH has sold Craftsman for some time. Either they own Lowes or vice-versa. It's nice that they are carrying the tools, because I have some broken sockets that I don't have to drive 20+ miles to replace, now. The nearest Lowes is about 2.5 miles from me.

Craftsman in name and logo only. These are NOT your Dad or Grandad's craftsman tools.

Completely agree, not very high quality these days. Bought a Craftsman pressure washer and lawn mower 5 or so years ago and both have bit the dust already. Sad.

Re: Craftsman at Lowes

I'm old enough that they're not even my Craftsman tools. The new ones aren't the same quality as what I bought 40 years ago.

Does Lowes honor the life time warranties?

Re: Craftsman at Lowes

From what I read, Stanley / B&D built or is building a new plant to bring craftsman back to U.S. manufactoring.

They advertise the "forever" warranty. If you grandad bought Craftsman and it breaks on you they'll replace it.

Re: Craftsman at Lowes

I picked up a magnetizer the other day at Ace Hardware, and they also had Craftsman tools. Was weird to see.

I wouldn't expect products like that to last any longer than others sold elsewhere. I think of mechanic's hand tools when I think of a tool I expect to last forever. And the tools I have bought in recent years seem just as good as the ones I've had since the '70s... or used ones I've bought that were older. Now craftsman floor jacks? Holy cow! Those were made to fail. I gave up on returning them for not holding weight up or flat out leaking after a few uses. Those carry a 1 year warranty and can't even make it that far. The craftsman jack I was trying to replace lasted 30 years and still held fluid. I just got tired of using it after a friend let something fall off of it and bend it up. But I used it like that another 15 years.

Makes me wonder why B&D closed the plant in Manchester, MD to make tools overseas. These big corporations sell us out, and now come back expecting a pat on the back for bringing manufacturing back... somewhere else. I'm glad to hear it, but they'll get no praise from me. Same as the dog that runs off, has his fun doing who knows what, comes back all nasty stinky full of burrs. Do you pet him and tell him "Good boy"?
