What size tires????

I have a '68 with 15x8 on back and 15x6 on front. Right now the truck has 15x8 all around. I want big and littles. So what size tires do I need? I'm pretty sure I want 275/60/15 on rear but am not sure on front.

Re: What size tires????

I have 235 55 17 on 17x8 the front of my 69 short step with 275 55 17 on the rear I like the 27" front 29" rear combo. I picked up another truck I was originally going to use for parts, but I got the big block running with a fuel pump and a coil. So... at least for now, another truck. Doh. To keep that same height combo, I bought 255 70 15 for the rear and 225 70 15 for the front on some 15x8 5 lug rally's. This is a good big(ger than front at least!) little combo.

Re: What size tires????

Not of that truck, but my 69 with the described setup. I think one of the biggest mistakes in stance with these trucks is a tire not tall enough and too wide in the front.

Re: What size tires????

235/70 15 on the front is a good match for 275/60 rear.

Re: What size tires????

Agree with above posts - 225 or 235 70-15 are good choices. If you want more of a common diameter front to back as opposed to just width difference (ie NO rake), take a look at 75 aspect ratio tires in the front. Stick with 275-60 on the back, great fit for these trucks.

Re: What size tires????

Tire width ÷ 25.4 = tire width in inches. For example a 235 tire ÷ 25.4 = 9.25in wide.

Now, your width (9.25) x the aspect ratio. Let's say "65". 9.25 x .65" = the height of the sidewall. 6.01". That's from the ground to the bottom edge of the wheel. We have two of those.. top and bottom. This will give you an idea how how the tire looks from the side, and/or a relational comparison from front to rear, etc. Usually doing big and littles I don't like to have the sidewall height on the front larger than the sidewall height on the rear. It just looks kinda goofy in my opinion.

So - 235/75r15. 235÷25.4 x .75 x 2 +15. This would give you a 9.25" wide tire, 6.93" sidewall and a 28.87" tall tire. Use this formula and it will give you the perfect size. It all really depends on how YOU want the truck to look. Me ? I usually like to make the overall width of the tire at least two inches wider than the wheel. So with a 6" wide wheel, I'd do at least an 8" wide tire. (205) It really depends on the truck, how low it sits, how much you want to fill up the wheel wells, size of the rear tires, etc..

Hope this helps.

Id run a 235/60 or a 225/70 you dont want the fronts to short

Re: What size tires????

235/60/15 (26" tall) is what I run for big'n'littles when using a 275/60/15 (28" tall) on the rear - I'm running this setup on my Bel Air wagon now, and have used it on previous vehicles. A 215/70/15 (26.5" tall) will work too. This will give you a little bit of 'rubber rake' since your front tires will be a couple inches shorter than the rear. Depending on the actual suspension drop you have, you may even need a taller tire than what I've suggested or the 225/70 (approx 27" tall) that Robznob11 suggested above. There are many online tire size calculators you can play with to find something that will work for you.

Re: What size tires????

I'm running 255/70/15's on 15 x 8 Rallys all around....I copied the setup from another truck because I liked the look so much.
