Engine Identify Help Needed

Need help identifying an engine in my 54 GMC 150-24 Truck. This is not the original engine.
Chevy Engine Block serial # 00II242F54XA CON1 K58
Head casting 8885918 B11 918 066 570

I cannot find anywhere a casting number on the block. Engine has been cleaned. Only numbers are above that I'm able to find.
I want to order parts for this engine but need the year and type.

Re: Engine Identify Help Needed

Are you sure it's not original? GMC engines were a little different than Chevy engines.

Re: Engine Identify Help Needed

From a google search of the head number:

The 8885918 number is not familiar. If some of the 8's are really 3's (sometimes the numbers are hard to distinguish), as in 3835913, that is a '54-up 235 head number.

Re: Engine Identify Help Needed

Yes pictures will help. The Chevy casting number will be right in front of the fuel pump on a 235, under the large GM.

00II242F54XA

00II242 this is the engine serial number

F54XA:
F= flint (engine factory)
54= 1954
XA= 235 Truck 3600 (3/4 ton)

Re: Engine Identify Help Needed

Was told I have the original GMC 248 engine (spare). The one in photos is in the truck right now. I double checked around the distrubitor, no raised casting numbers.
Last, where is the best place to order engine parts?

Forgot to add photos. Here is the links:

Re: Engine Identify Help Needed

stovebolt.com is a good source for these older 6's. There is also a FB group if you're on there called Straight Six Chevy (car, truck, any)- lots of parts on there.
http://www.langdonsstovebolt.com/ is another parts source

Its a 235 in the pictures- in front of the fuel pump is a large cast GM- I can see it in the second picture. Below the GM is the block casting number.
This is a picture of my 1954 235 block casting number for reference.

Re: Engine Identify Help Needed

MNJ already figured it out for you in post 5 and the link I posted in post 6 verifies it.

Basic engine parts you can get at NAPA or another full service old school parts house, they aren't exotic parts that are rare and unobtainable. There should be a few "go to" parts houses in the Sacramento area that still have the parts books on the racks next to the counter rather than just a computer.
