Re: Project: Blood, Sweat, and Years

Spent almost every night for 3-4 weeks working on the underside of the box, welding, grinding, welding, and more grinding. Built some inner fenders for underneath, turned out pretty nice.
Also fabbed up a battery box and mounted it under the bed, the lid is going to be the section of box floor that was cut out on a hinge.

Re: Project: Blood, Sweat, and Years

Side marker lights were shaved on fenders and boxsides, as well as the door handles.
The doors were stripped completely and then all of the tapping and pulling was done, after that it was skimmed and blocked numerous times before they were primed.
Also had a little 1x1 patch to do in the bottom corner of both doors.

Re: Project: Blood, Sweat, and Years

I sandblasted the doors when the body work on the outside was complete, and then shot some primer shortly after. The truck is going to end up being primed and blocked at least 3 more times.
Also I stipped the passenger fender, and began working on the metal. It was in rough shape.

Re: Project: Blood, Sweat, and Years

Finished the metal work, and prepped it for filler. After the fenders were blocked numerous times they were ready for primer. I'm using Evercoat Featherfill primer with very great success, I managed to get around 22 dry mils out of 3 coats of primer on each fender.
Also, I have over 1000 pictures of the build so far, and am only posting a few of them. If anyone has questions or would like to see a different angle of anything I have posted, I am more then willing to help out.

Re: Project: Blood, Sweat, and Years

All of the body work was done on the bottom side of the box while it was flipped over to make sure that it was laser straight.
There was a LOT of time spent on the bottom of the box, I ended up running into an issue with the back end of the box that I have circled in red in one of the pictures, the body line was only going to end up being a 1/4" so pieces were made and welded in to avoid that. I'm going to have to do the same on the top side of the box when I flip it back over.

Killer project you have going. I had to go back and do a double take......I saw you had painted everything, then I guess you decided to shave everything? Very nice truck you have. Looking forward to the rest of the build.

Thank you. Funny you asked, I did have everything painted but that was the very first paint job that I ever tried myself. It didn`t look all that good, but this time around there is already a lot more time spent on the bodywork, prep work, etc. We estimate by the time it has paint on it around 800 hours.

Re: Project: Blood, Sweat, and Years

Can`t believe I didn`t post these pictures yet, this was a lot of fun. That`s my buddy in the hazmat suit gettin`r done.
Also I`m looking for some sort of link setup, I installed the bags between the axle and notch and i`m not sure if i`m the biggest fan of it.
Looking for something well priced if anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated!
Also the crosses are 1/4" wall 2" square tubing as well as the upper and lower shock mounts.

Re: Project: Blood, Sweat, and Years

Truck is back in the garage, throwing all the panels on for a test fit, the cab ended up being out which in turn threw everything else off. With the cab true I realized the radiator support was no good, I found an original that I blasted and primed. Everything is fitting very nice, a couple edges are going to have to be modified before the next prime. The cowl also needs some serious work.

Re: Project: Blood, Sweat, and Years

Working on shaving the drip rails right now. I'm gonna end up going back over it with my DA to clean up some things. I ended up cutting the A pillar and pulling it in to increase the gap on the door.

Re: Project: Blood, Sweat, and Years

Got my windshield today to start test fitting and modifying the cab. The front and back glass is going to be "flush" mounted so the area around it is going to have to be modified to make it appear "flush".
I will have some pictures once I get started on it and I may do a write-up as I haven't seen one yet.

Also looking for a set of pro-touring wheels, going to be running a 20x8 in the front and a 20x14 rear. Something similar to these. If anyone knows of a wheel similar in looks it would be much appreciated.
Although I am decided, I would still like to keep my options open as the build progresses. Thank you.

Re: Project: Blood, Sweat, and Years

Did a little bit of work on the drip rails, turned out really nice, going to use a bigger grinder to run over the body line on the front to make it a little smoother.

Re: Project: Blood, Sweat, and Years

Started stripping the cab, pulling dents. I pulled a LOT of bondo out of the roof, but it was in very good shape underneath the 5 different paint jobs. Feels nice and straight and looks good with the straight edge on it. Also welded up the cab seam.

Re: Project: Blood, Sweat, and Years

Drove a few hundred miles today to pick up a set of 22" mock up wheels. I'm going to use them through the mock up stages, and for fabricating the engine bay panels.
My plan as of right now is to run a 20" wheel when it is all finished up.

Cool Re: Project: Blood, Sweat, and Years

That is one heck of a build man! I wished I had the talent and tools to do half that. I have always wanted to do away with the drip rails and make the windows flush mounted.

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Thanks for the kind words.

Doing some rust repair on the cab, putting a patch in both outer rockers, and repairing some rust on the back window. Will post pics in the next few days
