54 chevy pros, any info?

hey guys,

im new to the older chevys, all my knowledge is in the 67-72s so IM kina lost
The deal is, I have found a 54 chevy truck, 1/2 ton, 6 cyl (a 53), 3 speed on the tree.

the engine was rebuilt in 91 drove a bit and parked. the sheet metal is solid with good paint. The truck needs a battery, perhaps a carb kit, choke cable, brakes bled, and a tune probably. its supposed to me mostly original, what ever that means.

ill look at it today and take some photos, any advice on what to keep an eye out for? any ideas of value? thanks

Hey Dave,
Welcome to the "old" side.
In the FAQs there is a truck value guide that may help.
It is based on average sales.
It really depends on the market, how bad the seller wants it gone and what you plan to do with it.

Somewhere in my Favorites file, I have a link to values for these trucks. When I make it back from my trip, I'll put the link on here.

My father in law is in san antonio and has a 1950 chevy 1/2 ton. I am in Houston and have a 3/4 ton chevy truck. Anyway he is a heavy machinery mechanic and loves these old trucks not sure if he would be willing to look it over with you but I could ask him if you are interested.

Well, I guess I didn't bookmark the page I had found with the value/costs per condition. I search to see if I can run across it again.
If you look at getting one, you may find interesting:

Disappointed Excitement

I like the idea of having one of the few trucks in town the same year, ect as mine. And having a 71 GMC,well there are a buttload of them,so I figured that having a 49,I would prolly have the only one in town

This has been true since I got the truck last June, haven't seen even 1,until today.Same color I was gonna paint mine and all.Looked really good sitting hte parking lot,I was like all at the same time.

While it's good to see one being saved, and restored, now I don't have the only one anymore.

Aw it's all good,I'll live I'm sure. Now I gotta find the guy,and see what kinda parts I can swap for
