Re: need upper rear shock mount brackets

Are the upper shock brackets on the 67-72 4x4’s the same ones that are riveted to the frame on the 2wd’s with leaf springs? If so, they are still available through any Workhorse dealer. Workhorse uses that old GM upper shock bracket still today on the W42 chassis (old P42 GM stripped chassis).

I don’t have a picture to compare but if you can get a picture of what you need I can confirm these brackets are the same ones. I know the Workhorse brackets are the same as what is on the upper rear of my ’68 GMC 2wd with leaf springs.

Sutliff Chevrolet in Harrisburg is the closest Workhorse dealer to Highspire.

Re: need upper rear shock mount brackets

Bummer. The Workhorse brackets are different and won't fit a 4x4. Sorry

Re: need upper rear shock mount brackets

Can i box the frame in using 1/8" steel and beef it up were the shocks mounts too and use a bolt though the frame or weld a stud were the shock mounts to?I am not sure of the angle of the shock should be.I plain on putting dual shocks on it.The rearend is a 14 bolt full floater out of a '73 and is set up for daul shocks. The frame has or i would guess they look like some kind of old not so great home mand shock mounts.

Re: need upper rear shock mount brackets

Well, now that I looked at my GMC I may be wrong. The Workhorse brackets are not the same as my GMC. My 2wd leaf sprung GMC uppers look just like yours. I know the Workhorse brackets were common with some GM truck. ….maybe it was the 2wd Chevy’s with coils or a G-van. The Workhorse chassis is the old GM P-chassis which the frame rails are very close to pre-1988 GM truck frames.

Now, you got me curious. I’ll get a CAD drawing of the brackets position in the frame tomorrow. If I remember right they are much smaller than the pictures you posted and are rivited to the top and side of the frame flange.

Re: need upper rear shock mount brackets

My CAD reader isn’t cooperating today but I was able to dig up a layout drawing, which isn’t as accurate but pretty close.

The frame channel is taller a few feet forward of the axle but tappers down to the old C/K pickup truck sized rail toward the rear. Both rear shocks mount forward of the axle at the upper brackets just like the older trucks as well. This bracket may just work for you with a little of creativity. I have no idea what they would cost though.

I remember looking at these before thinking they would fit my truck as mine has a stripped shock mounting stud.

Re: need upper rear shock mount brackets

Yeah, Sutliff can get them but probably won't stock them. We are building 2009 chassis with that same bracket right now. They are still production pieces.

Good luck with your project. Keep us posted.

BTW....welcome to the site.

Hi
Can you please tell me where I can buy an Upper rear shock mounting bracket for a 72 K/5? I read the post and didn't see, or missed the vendor.
