Sm465

I've got a sm465 won't go into any except low and first. When I pull the shifter out the spring loaded plunger won't go all the way in to let the shifter go to another rail. Any suggestions?

Re: Sm465

have you checked to see if the shifter rails are lined up...in neutral? have you had the top off the trans?

Flash light and a decent sized screwdriver. Pull the stick and look into the hole

They're lined up I pulled the shifter out and it goes from low to first easy. I can move the plunger over with a screwdriver and go from second to third but the plunger will not go over enough to let me put it in reverse

Already done that. I can't get the plunger to go over enough to put it in reverse. I can put it in the rest of the gears with a screwdriver but when I put the shifter back in I've only got low and first

Re: Sm465

just fixed this on an '89 square body v30 I have. basically I cut the trans tunnel, used both hands to jerk the gear shifter over into reverse (half way into reverse to be able to pull the tranny top off).

had to put a couple of E-clips onto the plunger shaft. All fixed for basically free, just a pain in the butt
