What pictures are you looking for ? I have a 67 small window that I'm prepping now to build a power rear window and take a bunch of pictures so other guys can do it . If your looking for pictures of making the buckets from benches I have those already .

Oh. I did not think of that. I didn't know there were different kinds. How can you tell the difference?

Once seat are down to bare frames reintall in your truck and using a center line down thru the steering wheel you can mark the seat frame to be cut , then using the drivers side measurements you can measure and cut the passenger side . leaving the spring wire long so you cn overlap them to reattach the springs once the 2 halves are welded back together .

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

You have to have 2 matching bench seats , so they still match in height and structure when your done , these are 67 flip seats , you can do the same thing with the non flip bench , What seats do you have ? the seat tracks have to match also . Don't cut anything until you have a matching set .

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

I have only the one out of a 70 Chevy. It is down to the springs on the bottom. I am still looking for another. I have a bench in my other truck but it is the flip kind and was told it was from a 66. Dunno but it bolted right in.

Don't cut anything until you have a matching set .

Once you get all the parts together you want to do both at the same time it only takes a few hours . you can also measure ,cut, bend, and weld on headrest frames using the spare tubing you cut from the center of the bench seat so it all matches ,Your "new buckets" have to be reinstalled back in the truck to tack weld the headrest frames in the correct position so they don't hit the back of the cab or window when the seat is pushed back . this whole process takes time and you still have to find a shop to build out the upholstery from the bare frames .I have extra sets ready to be upholstered that I can list in the classified section if someone wants a finished set ready to bolt in matching their interior .

Looking for bench seat for a '72 in Colorado area. Seems like they are not easy to find. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Always check your local Craigslist and local junk yards when looking for stock bench seats , Many guys are installing aftermarket seats and selling their stock bench , Also become a subscribing member and place a want to buy ad in the classified section .

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

Or if you can't find another matching bench seat to build a set of buckets you can use your stock bench seat and rebuild it to have the bucket look while adding built in head rests and a fold down armrest consol and even add in some hidden cup holders using your stock bench seat , I have one on my bench I built for a member But I'll have to get permission to post pics from him first .

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

Excellent thread. I'm going to be reading anything I can about interior materials and their proper application. It'll be a while before I'm ready to do interior/paint so I have time to study.
Good to know there are specialists in this field to draw information from. To bad photobucket wrecked the original pics. Woulda liked to see them.

Read thru this website

http://www.thehogring.com/

,It is geared for the interior shop owners and has tons of info ,designs , articles , shop info and tutorials . start planning your interior when you start your build , many times guys will spend years and thousands of dollars on their truck and then expect to find exact matching materials to their new custom paint and they wait until they are almost done with their build and expect a custom interior to be built in short order for cheap money ... Good interior shops are few and far between today , and most stay busy and months behind in work with projects coming in the door daily .Very few young guys are taking up the trade and us old guys don't work as fast as we used too so always allow as much time as possible for them to build what you want . If you want an exact match between your interior and paint pick your interior color first and match the paint to that material . There is a HUGE difference in materials and quality from a custom shop built seat compared to the $200.00 Chinese premade seat covers sold online

Thanks Grumpy. Yeah, I'm one of the old guys who don't work as fast as I used to. I think that maybe time just moves faster for us than the youngsters or maybe we are more quality conscious in our later years and spend more attention to detail. Maybe both.
It is unlikely I'll have the cash to spend on the interior I want but sacrificing quality isn't on my play list. Given that, it's likely that my only real option may be to learn a few things and give it a try. I may have a ton of questions when the day comes. Thanks for the info.
