DIY Steering Column
I wanted a simple old-school steering column for my '51 panel so I made one for about $50 in parts. It consists of a 1-1/2" exhaust tube, a ball bearing on each end, a 3/4" cold-roll shaft, a hardware store spring, a shaft clamp and martini shaker for a bell. The bell is just for aesthetics and is held in place with wooden doughnuts JB Weld-ed into place. I'm kinda pleased with the results and I hope you like it too.

That is what hot rodding is about, you don't need a damn catalog, you just make stuff!
That is an outstanding job! I was trying to figure out the "bell" as I looked at the photos and then started reading waiting to see what in the hell was the bell made from. LOL I would have never guessed, which is what is suppose to happen. If someone looks at it and thinks "ahhh, he used a cocktail shaker" that isn't what you want to happen. That there is just perfect, right on! Brian

The local store that sells those must think you are a serious Martini drinker.
I just like the real clean uncluttered look of it. Now a question, what are you doing for turn signals? Most soccer moms in mini vans will probably think you are drying your nails if you use hand signals.

That's just the soccer moms, Brian, the undocumented farm workers think that slowing down with your left turn signal on means go ahead and pass me as that is what it means"back home".
I've got a pair of toggle switches in a little panel under my dash for the turn signals. Left/right and flip them both on for 4 way. It needs indicators in the dash though.
