gas mileage question

This is for the guys in the TF trucks with the 235's in them. What kind of mileage do you get in your truck? I'm looking at one that is as far as i know stock, but I want to drive it as a daily driver until my 51 is done then trade places. I don't know much about it, so if you need more info I can't give it. If you can just give me a guestament. thanks.

Re: gas mileage question

Stock 1/2 ton 59 235, 3 speed 3.73 rearend I got about 14 mpg empth. With camper it dropped to 11. When I put in the truck 4 speed and 4.11 rearend it stayed steady at about 12, but was limited on highway speeds.

When I converted to 283/350th/203 tranfer and 3.73 gears with full time front drive I got 12 mpg. I put in a Doug Nash full time shaft which made it a true in or out box and gained 3 mpg, around 15. Truck had a stock Rochester 2 BBL. New engine will be a 350 with Edlebrock 600 CFM Performer and manifold, I am hoping for 15-16.

Re: gas mileage question

I think it was a little over 16 gallons. I know it was not big enough to get me to my favorite place in the Sawtooths and back without going 30 miles out of my way into Stanley to fill it up. I dropped a 69 Impala tank where the spare tire goes (ugly but functional) and that gave me the range I needed to stop carrying a 5 gallon can with me.

Re: gas mileage question

No problem, if anyone is interested I have the original 59 behind the seat tank, in really good shape, for sale. PM me if interested I need to get it out of the way wife is getting cranky moving it to use the weight bench!
