Where to buy - Complete drop out

Morning all,

Where is everyone buying their complete drop out engines? I have talked to American Pickup Salvage in Arkansas, and their prices are pretty reasonable. Just curious if there is anyone else I should be talking with.

Thanks!
Nick

Re: Where to buy - Complete drop out

Got mine off steal-bay as i could not find any locally with low miles in a price I was comfortable with. I would of rather purchased one locally as you get physically see what you are getting and in what condition. Look over the wiring harness carefully (unmolested harness means something different to each salvage yard). Grab all of the accessory items you possibly can as they will nickle and dime you to death later.

Re: Where to buy - Complete drop out

I've been looking online are yards. American Pickup seems to specialize in GM trucks. I'm looking for the whole shebang, motor, trans, wire harness, pedal, etc... They sell theirs with a copy of the title and a warranty.

Just curious if there is others like that out there. CL around these parts is a joke. Lots of junk for crazy money.

I just picked up a LS2 / 4l60 complete with everything minus headers from eBay. A lot of sellers are offering free freight shipping if you can have it delivered to a business.

Re: Where to buy - Complete drop out

Thanks for the suggestions. I was perusing fleabay and found a yard on the south side of Des Moines that seems to have a large selection of complete dropouts. They are 3 hours from me so I may take a trip up there. They even have youtube vidoes of the engines running.

BeaterKU...I am in Springfield MO and I bought my 6.0 and 4L80e off of Meadows Truck Salvage in Halltown, MO. Fantastic price and was able to go hear it run before they pulled it from a Denali Yukon. If you want contact info then PM me. I see tons of these on FB marketplace, but they are often more money than what I paid for mine.

I've look at that route, but the trucks up here go for crazy money even when wrecked.

Re: Where to buy - Complete drop out

So, I was talking to a buddy about not being able to find a decent drop out for a reasonable price and he says "you could have built the LS sitting in your garage in the time you've been looking for a complete setup." I've got an LQ4 and 4L80e sitting in the shop. I'm not thinking I am going to have the LQ4 and 4L80e gone through and freshed and slap it in my truck. I originally wanted to find a complete swap, but got to thinking it might be just as easy to freshen this one and have a "new" motor and trans going in.

I appreciate everyone's help!
