West TX Z build up thread

Ive been here for a while and decided to make a build up thread of my truck. Its an 1984 Sivlerado with a SBC 350 with a mild cam, headers, and dumped Flow Master Super 40's. The truck runs well but needs some work done. I plan on a new SDPC Crate Engine some time soon. Best part that the truck is RUST FREE!!!! Here is a pic of the truck the day I brought it home. As the thread continues you can see the progress. Thanks and feel free to comment and give suggestions!

Day 1 at my parents house:

Notice missing door lock.

My dad looking at the locks.

Nasty tint job.

Ugly busted interior

Re: West TX Z build up thread

First thing I did was fix the door locks. Next was buy a brand new windshield. The original was cracked horribly. Look below.

Next was to give a temporary fix to the ugly head light trim. Look below.

Here I removed the grill, and bezels, sanded and painted with semi gloss black.

While I was at it I figured I'd do something about the nasty peeling window trim.

Re: West TX Z build up thread

No pictures of me gutting all the stereo wiring. But the sound system was a mess. I dont care much for a radio in my truck so I removed EVERY single speaker, busted amp, "wall of subs" and other useless crap.

Started taping up the windows to sand and paint. Again, this is just a temp fix until I replace all the trim when the truck gets painted in the future.

Next I sanded down the trim with a series of sand paper. No pics sorry.

Re: West TX Z build up thread

Here I used some semi gloss black paint. Its good stuff. This was done in March and it still looks great!

Next was the front wind shield. I believe the original windshield is still on? I cant tell. Either way, its new now. lol

Sanded and painted

Back and sides done.

Front done.

New Glass.

Also removed the horrible tint. It was purple! That was a whole days work of work.

Cleaned up the interior. There was also a monster tach that was drilled into the dash!! WTF? It wasnt even working anyways correctly so I trashed it.

Look at the nasty wheels.

Started Cleaning them up with aluminum polish.

Me showing my rear cleaning the wheels.

DONE!!

Washed.

Re: West TX Z build up thread

Added a tailgate band thanks to Texasfunk!! I plan to polish it soon or have it power coated lightly in the EOM silver color. I'm pleased with the look for now.

Looking good man! Detail tip: If you wipe a light coat of WD-40 on that tailgate band it'll make it look like new and have depth.

Re: West TX Z build up thread

Yeah it's the little details that count. Tucking the bumper as you did makes it look so much better. We did ours that way, and some goof came in the wrong way in the apartment complex while we had the bed off and smacked the bumper. Here's what we did with the rear bumper.

Well, I just got home from TexasFunks crib. We swapped wheels before he sells his truck. I've been dying for some OEM rallys.

Texasfunk txting. lol

Swapped!!

I'm real happy with the look. I think my old Eagle Alloys looked better on Texasfunks truck than mine!! lol

and unfortunately yes! i didnt want to, but i bought a new car, and before buying that new car i should have checked the insurance :/ i took a loan out to buy the car so i didnt have to sell the truck, but the insurance is going to KILL me, so i want to pay the car off so i dont have to have full coverage..im going to miss this truck, but i think the 99 t/a will fill the void nicely

I've never noticed until last night when me and Thomas were looking at it. I believe the front springs have been cut a coil and the rear is missing two leaf springs. It came like that. I still want to go lower.
