High beam indicator

Noticed on my friends 72', His high beam indicator on the dash was a round light. My 68 panel and 70 blazer have a thin rectangular light. Was that a 67-70 thing? Is the round lamp a 71-72 thing, or 72 only?

High beem indicator means shes cold gentleman would offer her his coat or other ways to get warm. Yea might could have resisted but didn't feel like it.

Re: High beam indicator

I seem to recall buying a 68 cluster for parts and it having a round red indicator. It caused me to fail the annual inspection and I had to swap the speedo with the rectangular blue one from the 72.

The truck is titled as a 72 so at some point apparently the feds decided to standardize on a blue indicator.

just to add a bit of color to the conversation...

Re: High beam indicator

Re: High beam indicator

I had found a rectangular blue one in a junk yard once... but all my trucks (to include my 72 burb) came with red.
When I lived in texas, I found myself having to educate inspection stations on an anual basis.

Re: High beam indicator

I have a 68 and it is rectangle. it does not work or if it does it is to dim to see it. I am doing a little project today putting a 8mm blue led right under headlight switch so when high beam is on there will be no dought its working. I also did same thing with blinkers except using green.

Re: High beam indicator

I had a '67 a long time ago, and I coulda swore it was bow tie shaped. Maybe the PO did that with a little file.

Re: High beam indicator

That brings up a very good question and I am not sure what the answer is.

My 72 Cheyenne has a round one and I am pretty sure it has the stock cluster. I have 10 samples in my inventory. 8 are round and 2 are rectangular.

I am interested to know more about this too.

Re: High beam indicator

My 72 has a round red indicator. The guys at the Jiffy Lube doing the inspection were too distracted by the overall look of the Burb to care what color the indicator was lol.

Re: High beam indicator

My '71 truck has a round red one.

Maybe they used both and just threw in what they wanted to?

Re: High beam indicator

like I posted earlier, I installed two 8mm green led lights and an 8mm blue light in my cluster for my blinkers and blue for high beam indicator. The factory indicators are very dim and barely visible. The only problem is when I use either blinker as green led blinks with the turn is made , well the high beam blue led also blinks. I am not sure why. Is it possible that I have a wiring problem?

Re: High beam indicator

I would say yes. It sounds like your using the same ground. When you turn the high beam on,do the turn light indicators come on?

Re: High beam indicator

yes I tied all three led lights together in to one ground. should I separate each one to its on ground? will doing this let each light only work without making high beam come on?
