Truck unloaded weight?

I have to weight my 81 k20 silverado for the DMV registration

It was 4840lbs at a private feed store where DMV sends you and they are supposedly certified by the DMV. Took out the spare tire and tailgate off maybe 3/8 of gas in one saddle tank.

That seems high because I weighted comming out of a dump a few weeks ago with tailgate on and spare tire laying in bed and IIRC it was 4300lbs

Anyone else know the weight of their K20

I have a small block chevy 2 door 1981 k20 35" BFGs and aluminum rims, no other extra accessories, pretty much stock 2 door cab

According to the literature available from the GM Heritage website, the curb weight of your truck could range from 4,300 lbs to 4,500 lbs depending on the GVWR.

My 1981 K2500 with a 292/SM465/np208/8,600lbs GVWR/stock suspension and 33 inch m/t weighs in at 4,527 lbs at the scales, empty, including the spare, tailgate and with me in the truck.

The feed store weight sounds more accurate to me.... the 4300# sounds too light. I only weighed my '72 K20 empty one time, at a certified scale, and it was 5300# with spare tire and me (~140 then) and I don't remember how much fuel.

How critical is it for your license? What I mean is, Calif. also has a weight rule, but it breaks every 1000#. That is, 3001-4000# is one weight class, 4001-5000# the next, and so on. So if you're anywhere within the 4000# range, it costs the same.

Re: Truck unloaded weight?

I figure the communist rip off state of calif will charge $1000 per pound over what ever their base commercial plate fee is. Someone told me it was 4500lbs. But that could be BS too.

Im doing a dual state registration to keep the nazi cops in calif from pulling me over every week because I have Idaho plates. Most CA sheriffs just let me go. Last nazi cop was a jack ass and threatened to impound my truck. Dude totaly harassed me trying to get a reaction out of me I guess. I just ignored his little childish rant and threats

It's nothing like that. There's the registration fee, then they add the weight fee. Current weight fees for 2-axle trucks are 3000-4000# = $24...... 4001-5000# = $80.... and 5001-6000# = $154.

Here's the fee schedule: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/fees/weight_less.htm

Re: Truck unloaded weight?

Thanks Stocker

Looks like the $24 was already included in the $129 that I paid them already, so I guess they will charge me $56 more (80-24=56) . All i can say is what a rip off . My Idaho regs is less than $30

Not making a political statement -- but I agree with you. I'm Oregon born & raised and was used to cheap license & registration. Now I'm in NorCal and things are, well, different. I could better understand commercial weight fees if I used my truck to earn a living -- that is, if it were used for commerce (hence the term commercial plates). But it is what it is, nothing can be done but grumble, so being an old fart, I will occasionally grumble.
