Re: Let's see your Detroit steel wheel post um up

The ones on greenie are 73-75 aluminum "innies" on 16.5" wheels. Many folks re-do em to look like the 69-72 caps. The ones on the white 72 are correct chrome 69-72 "outies" on 16" wheels. The 16.5s are what most 72 C20s came with, I swapped to later year 16" wheels on the white truck because it's my keeper and tire availability is a little more plentiful. Ironically, I ran the same tire type on both trucks - Firestone TransForce HTs. I pc'ed both sets at the same time.

Re: Let's see your Detroit steel wheel post um up

Oh,that's what you meant. I didn't realize "Detroit" was a wheel brand and thought "factory",especially along with "steelies". Those are steel wheels but they aren't steelies. Steelies are factory or factory-style wheels in factory sizes,as in what came stock on virtually all American cars and light trucks for decades. There were oversized (wider) steelies made by the aftermarket to accommodate wider tires and auto makers even started offering them as an option beginning in the '60s

BTW, welcome to the site!

I looked into them before going with 20x8 Nissan spares. it was when they first came out and their artillery wasn't in production. to me Detroit's without trim rings or caps don't look right. I've tried to buy a set of their trim rings to try out on my nissans but they are always back ordered or out of stock

I love the look but a 20x9 wheel is 47 pounds a piece. That's a lot of rotating mass to stop!

Re: Let's see your Detroit steel wheel post um up

i spoke with the folks at detroit steel wheels about a year ago and at that time they were struggling to keep up with demand which caused their lead times to be way way out. I may reach out to them again in the near future, as I never purchased any wheels and am getting "the itch" again for something different and the fact that they are Made in the USA kinda gives them an edge in my book.

glossy black 20's with poverty caps/dog dishes & thin white walls would be killer.

What do they offer for center caps if any? I see these as another type of steel smoothie.
