Which Battery..

I am in need of a Battery for my 70 GMC 4x4. I got 1 a few months ago and it is already bad, Exide. Iwas thinking of an Interstate M7 AGM design. Any input would be helpful. Batteries are probaly Like Oil types/brands.

Re: Which Battery..

First I'd do some checking to see why the other one drained out so fast. It would suck to drop more coin on a more expensive battery to drain that one out as well.

Re: Which Battery..

^^ x2 what Gary said, need to find out what killed that one. Possibly it was just a fluke, batteries can crap out any time they want to. If yours has a pro-rated warranty, that should pick up a good chunk of the replacement cost. I forget who makes therm but I have had good luck with NAPA's 84-month batteries.

Re: Which Battery..

I have it will not hold a charge, alternator charging at 14.6volts or so. Less than 1 ma amp draw dead. I have tried charging out of truck, Will not charge and shows approx 10 volts. So I am thinking it has a bad cell. I know I may have gotten a bad one but just thought I would get opinions from the best out there.

Re: Which Battery..

X3 on Gary's comment. What is wrong with your truck's electrical system?

Plus bring that one back to where you bought it and they may cover a replacement.

Sure does sound like just a bad battery, probably nothing wrong with your truck. Good luck with the replacement, whatever you choose, and let us know how it works out.

Re: Which Battery..

Get a free battery, most decent batteries will have a free replacement warranty. Get the free battery and have it checked out before you take it home. Most batteries will show bad up to 6 months before they start giving you troubles.

Re: Which Battery..

I realize they are not quite what they used to be yet I purchased an Optima Red Top over 1.5 years ago.

Still running strong, stock charging system. Next up was a Deka but I could not make it fit into my custom battery box.

If your charging system throws too many volts at a battery too fast it will certainly give the battery a short life. Trickle chargers do a 2 amp charge for that exact reason.

Re: Which Battery..

AC Delco's do look very nice. I'm running Optima Red's and Interstate, never had trouble with either one.

Re: Which Battery..

You all may not believe this but we test 30 to 40 batteries a day where I work and the ones that test good most always are the NAPA Legend and Wal-Mart Max. They both usually test way above what they are rated at.

Re: Which Battery..

I have an Odyssey. And like you the first one crapped out on me within a couple months. They gave me a replacement with no hassle. Haven't had a problem since. I guess I just got a defective one the first time. But they stood behind their product.
