"Whom" with any importance are you realted to
Related to (correction)
as for me ........................................all my life I was told I was related to President Ulysses S. Grant who was the 18th President of the United States (1869–77). from ,my mothers side of the geniology and this is how it came to be ..some one way back there from my moms family there was indeed a Grant by last name ,, but the truth is he decided to name his son the same name as the President So as it turns out I am not realted to anyone with fame or fortune ,,but I did have a long ago relative hung for horse stealing ,, How about any of you,,tell your tale if you dare,,

I am related to Guy Faux who tried to blow up the House of Parliament in England in 1606. It's like the House of Representatives here in the US. They found him in the cellar with two tons of dynamite. Security might have been a bit lax back then.

My Mom & Dad.... Oh, and my brother. I just sent in my DNA sample to Ancestry to see if it will disclose any Native American connection. Rumor has it that my Great Grandfather on my dads side was married to a Native American in Northern Florida or Southern Georgia. My wife has traced her linage back to Miles Standish LockDoc

Re: "Whom" with any importance are you realted to
My grandmother's cousin was former world champion boxer James Corbett. Most knew him as "Gentlemen Jim". He beat John L Sullivan for the title in which I think was the last bare fisted title fight.
The picture is a dead ringer for my dad when he was younger. By the way Leon I discovered a native american connection that puts me at 1/8 Iroquois. I mention that because of your native american comment and the fact that some of them settled in Marion Iowa area. Anywhere near you ? . I have recently started genealogy searching and found Familysearch from the church of Latter day saints sight to be very helpful and free. You can create and keep your family tree. My dads side came from France and settled in Montmagny Quebec. A Grandfather married an Iroquois lady and like a lot of French Canadians traveled down to Bourbannis Illinois which was a French settlement. Then spread out to Iowa,Nebraska,Oregon.

Nobody, as far as I know.
I have been tempted to run for office so that the media would dig up all the dirt in my family tree...

The Fonze.
If I remember this right, my great grandmother's maiden name was Winkler and she was cousins with Henry. He supposedly came to a big family reunion we had like 15 years ago over in Ohio. I'm also directly related to John Brown (the guy that tried to kick off the Civil war early). My grandmother passed a few years ago, she had all of this down, but if you knew my family... you can see the resemblance with a lot of my relatives. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Brown_(abolitionist)

Larry, is your niece and her family a native of Russellville?
(File under worthless info) We bid on a fluoride treatment plant for Marion County Water System today and a contractor from Russellville was the low bidder. other Larry

Re: "Whom" with any importance are you realted to
Some really cool stories on here. I'm descended from several member of the Plymouth Colony that came over on the Mayflower. The George Soule and John Howland families to be exact.
My favorite story is about one of the GreatXXXXX Uncles from then. He got arrested and put in the stocks for saying that the devil could preach as good a sermon as the ministers. His name was Zoeth and I'm descended from his brother. Here's a link to the full story if you're interested, (not my site)

related to California governor Juan B Alvarado, at that time California was part of Mexico. one of the more interesting things he did was get drunk before his wedding and couldn't make it. so his brother went in and stood in on his behalf.

On my moms side, one of my many greats grandfather was Sequoyah, Chief of the Cherokee Nation. He invented the first written American Indian Language.
I'm also related to Geronimo, Chief of the Chiricahua Apache Tribe (known for being cannibalistic)...(just ask my wife). On my dads side, I'm related to Buffalo Bill. This explains why I'm so darn good looking!

Re: "Whom" with any importance are you realted to
My Dad's grandmother died in 1975 at the age of 97. She came to Arkansas from southern Missouri in the late 1800s. Her name was Edna Roxanna James, and she always told the story of being related to Jesse and Frank James.
She married my great grandfather, Jesse Cox, who died in his twenties. One of their sons was named Jesse, after his father and also after his famous relative, and their other son was named John. Jesse was a rounder in the 1930s and was a regular at "beer joints" and fought often. He died of a brain tumor in the 1940s. Edna's other son, John, was my grandfather and was a good hard working family man until his death from lung cancer in 1976. I remember him. I was named after him and I named my son, John, after him. We still own the old family farm and it's a great deer hunting place today down in South Arkansas. GTT
