This is hidden from the California Tax payers and should be posted on the pumps... in big letters! Road repair taxes are scheduled to increase every year automatically now, and to be squandered on pet political projects, as usual. Californians love taxes and vote for every stupid bond on the ballot to boot!

Gasoline excise taxes and fees

• Federal Fuel Tax: 18 cents.
• State Fuel Tax: 42 cents.
• State Underground Storage Tank Maintenance Fee: 2 cents.
• Sales Tax: 9 cents.

Climate Change and Renewable Fuel costs

• Cost of Renewable Fuels Standard: 7 cents.
• Cost to Fuel of Low Carbon Fuel Standard: 4 cents.
• Cost to Fuel of Cap and Trade: 11 cents.

Total taxes and fees amount to 93 cents per gallon.


Diesel excise taxes and fees

• Federal Fuel Tax: 24 cents.
• State Fuel Tax: 36 cents.
• State Underground Storage Tank Maintenance Fee: 2 cents.
• Sales Tax: 9 cents.

Climate Change and Renewable Fuel costs

• Cost of Renewable Fuels Standard: 7 cents.
• Cost to Fuel of Low Carbon Fuel Standard: 2 cents.

Total taxes and fees amount to 94 cents per gallon.


About one third of the price of gasoline and diesel is attributed to taxes alone.

Also:
Other new charges include an additional $25 to $175 vehicle registration fee, depending on the value of one’s automobile. Electric car owners will pay a flat fee of $100.

I live closer to Evanston (Wyo) than the Valley of the Great Salt Lake. Sometimes I go up to big windy to buy lotto tix and fuel up. Gas is usually 20 cents or so cheaper in Evanston due to Wyoming not having as high of taxes, but the truth of the matter is I don't really drive my personal vehicles enough to make much of a difference. My employer provides me a truck and fuel to get to the Valley each day for work. I do know that they get a heck of a break on prices, but between gas and diesel, they probably burn through 30,000 gallons a week.

$1.85 in SC. That's the low price leader at this point I think.

91 octane ethanol-free gas is available at nearly all local stations and I paid just over $3 last week to fill up my 99 Suburban.

I don't believe so....They put the screws to you in the winter, because they know you have no choice

....just like the oil companies started doing in 2005.............................remember why???........Katrina....every time a dog within a 50 mile radius of a refinery urinated on a fence post, gas went up 50 cents a gallon....then it got blamed on the hurricane

....the prices of ALL our consumer goods went way up because of this fiasco, oh yeah, the prices came down when oil came down...NOT!!!

I'm paying over $3 a gallon at CostCo, here in California. It's the cheapest around, especially when I get another 4%. It's the people who want a special blend of gas for pollution reduction that drive the price up. Truth is, in spite of all the complaining about the SMOG in California, it is orders of magnitude better than it used to be. This is in spite of California having more vehicles than every other state in the union.
