I've got some of Bill's CDs. Johnny Castle, who has been the bass player for the Nighthawks about 15 years or more, played with Bill before.

Looky here at who stood in with Bill when he was still with us. Danny Gatton

I go to live music with my kids too. Going to see Jamie Johnson with my son soon, then taking my daughter to see the Mavericks.
My daughter actually told me she had never heard of Jason Isbel, but went with me because "if I said he was good she would like him!"
That made me feel good! I have always enjoyed live music shows, but most of my live music friends got too old!!

Yea, I get you
In the early nineties there was a big push
They called it ‘New Country ‘
I actually liked it

Randy Travis is probably the one to be credited for starting it
Those years definitely changed the standard

This guy had a song ‘Achy breaky heart’
Which kind of gave New Country a bad name
As some would say

He actually had a lot of great music
And great lyrics

Dang K. Chet and Jerry Reed. Now that's my kind of music. I just spent a while watching them and ended up in "east bound and down". I never get tired of that one.

A 3 string electric shovel eh? Well I never.

Oh man. I just watched the video of Patty Lovelace and Vince Gill singing Rest high on that mountain at George Jones funeral. It's an awesome song and Vince struggled to sing it at the funeral. It is very moving.

Re: What kind of Music do YOU like ? Post it up, Please

Country started to suck in the '70s in my mind and Randy Travis brought back a traditional sound. All the rhinestones and glitz had gotten into the music with big horn sections, strings, and hardly a peddle steel or other "country" strings hardly present. The old boys were still doing it, but the effort by the recording industry was to change that. That is when the outlaw boys like Waylon and Willie rose to the surface and eventually guys like Randy Travis and Ricky Skaggs. In the '70s country rock and folk rock were my mainstays. Much of that was more country than what country stations were playing but it went totally ignored by the country music industry. Now what they call country is more rock than country...actually not as much rock as plain old pop, country pop is what I call it. Maybe the country rock I was digging on was too country. I'm talking about Gran Parsons, Emmy Lou Harris, Hoyt Axton...or Commander Cody for that matter.

Re: What kind of Music do YOU like ? Post it up, Please

now you're talkin'! You know what I like? American music with guitar. That's folk, blues, country, rock and roll. I like the less produced music these days. Some of that crap they play on pop stations makes you wonder what they sound like w/o the studio engineers and recording gizmos. Can they all sing? If so, why do they have to sing through voice altering devices? I absolutely hate that crap!

During that period Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks, Jimmy Hall, and Chuck Leavell were touring around (early-80s) I got to hear them outside of Baltimore. It was a night club venue and our table was up front center. This place had "girlie" cocktail waitresses that rivaled a Playboy Club (I'd have to assume). What a great night of fun and good music. Ended up getting our waitress involved after they noticed the fun that was surrounding the table. When they were done playing I got a chance to talk with Dickie for a while. That was a night to remember.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CG5WAnfLG7g

If you don't know who Jimmy Hall is, did you ever hear Wet Willie? They had the hit "Keep On Smilin'".Good southern music. He has more energy than Exxon

I better not watch it then. That song does the same to me hearing it on the radio, just knowing that he wrote it for his brother.
