Understanding Specs - Comparing two cams

The machinist who did work on my heads, block, crank, etc.. recommended a cam for my truck. He wasn't 100% sure if there would be interference between the rod and the cam and suggested I should check it. I would rather go with a small base circle cam and be more certain that I won't have to clearance the rods... That brings me to my question. Below is the cam the machinist recommended and one that I believe is very similar from skip white (both comp cams). Tricky thing is that the skip white cam doesn't specify if their duration number is at .050 lift.

Comp - 12-422-8
lift - .495/.502
duration - 270/276
duration at .050 lift - 218/224

Skip white comp cam 12-000-8-13436
lift - .498/.502
duration - 200/226 (does not specify anything beyond that for the duration spec)

Is it safe to assume that the duration number on the skip white cam is at .050 lift, otherwise its a really low duration... I am trying to pick a reduced base circle cam thats same/close to what my machinist recommended.

That’s likely right.
Assuming you’re building a 383!
How much compression ratio?

While I have never bought one, I was of the understanding that any one of Comp's cam grinds can be had on a small base circle. It is just a special order.

Re: Understanding Specs - Comparing two cams

I am assuming you are building a stroker. That skip white cam has a very short intake duration obviously. The concern is that it may close the intake valve to soon and make too much compression for a big inch stoker motor. You will need to find out all the specs on the cam and calculate the dynamic compression.

The Comp cam is a good looking cam all around IMO.
